Alfred Joseph Gauthier

Born May 30, 1925, Plamondon, Alta, passed away August 18, 2017, after a brief battle with Leukemia at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, lovingly surrounded by his family.

Alfred was predeceased by his first wife Yvette {Menard} Gauthier in 1991, his Parents Isidore and Mary Gauthier, 7 brothers; Clifford, Willard, William 1st, Alvey, Albert, William 2nd, & Urban plus 5 sisters; Stella, Louise, Florence, Emma, & Annette; his two son in laws, Mel Matvichuk, and Doug Reitzel, and his daughter in law Carol Gauthier.

Alfred is survived by his second wife Nancy, his four children Denis Gauthier, Sherwood Park, Ab, Jeanne Matvichuk, Edmonton, Ab, Luci Roy [Roger], Spruce Grove, Ab and Paulette Biggar [Doug], Spruce Grove, Ab, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 step sons; Donald, Robert & David Pfeifle as well as 2 step grand children.

A Catholic funeral Mass will be held on August 25th, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in his home town parish of St. Isidore’s Catholic Church in Plamondon, Alberta, with internment of his ashes immediately following at the Plamondon Cemetery. Cremation and memorial arrangements conducted by Trinity Funeral Home in Edmonton, Alberta.

  3. How do you express in words the depth of your sympathies to such a wonderful and gentle man and to all of his family. Maurice had the good fortune of having him for an Uncle as well as learning so many things of the trade under him. Please take the warmth from the people that surround you and share in the great memories and much laughter in the years to come. He will be missed by so many and all of his talents. May he RIP.

We will continue to remember the card playing nights, the special times you took to teach us your carpentry skills and your contagious laugh! Rest peacefully uncle.

  13. I knew right away who this is! My Grandpa Albert was his brother. So sorry to hear. Alfred was always in a good mood, or so it seemed. May God Bless you and your families and may He comfort you during this time of loss. Heaven has welcomed him HOME!

  15. We last saw Alfred at the North American Fiddle Championships in Radway in July 2016. As usual he won in his class. Our deepest sympathy to all of the family. Many memories of all the family in the Fort McMurray days. May those happy memories carry you through this trying time. Art & Sylvia

  17. So very sorry for your loss Nancy and family… Alfred was a wonderful, talented man who not only loved The Lord ; but loved everyone he came into contact with. His smile and gentle nature won so many beautiful friends. I know it will never seem the same without him…but remember …he is always there in your heart. He loved you all dearly. He will be waiting for you at the pearly gates ? With a big hug!

    So sorry to hear of Alfred’s passing. He was a kind and generous soul who gladly shared
    his knowledge with all. His influence upon my musical progress was profound, and I fondly
    recall the times I was privileged to listen to him, and to play with him. His passing leaves a
    void impossible to fill.
