September 11, 1958 - March 12, 2019

Carol passed away peacefully on March 12, 2019 after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer.  She will be deeply missed by her children Jim (Jodi) and Shaun (Jackie), her four grandchildren, the lights of her life, Cally, Brady, Haylee and Paige, brother Malcom MacPherson, sister Colleen Herrick (Rob), sister-in-law Carol MacPherson, her many beloved nieces and nephews and the extended Whitehead family. Carol is predeceased by her parents Hector and May McPherson and brothers Brian and Garnet MacPherson.

Carol grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where she spent much of her time outside of school with friends and family at Buffalo Pound lake, having picnics in Riverside Park, and socializing at Temple Gardens. She could often be found in the rink enjoying one of her loves, figure skating.

In 1978 Carol and her family relocated from Briercrest, Saskatchewan to Swan Hills where she spent 12 wonderful years raising her boys before moving to Leduc in 1990. Carol loved her wonderful circle of friends there and the sense of community Leduc provided her. Summers were spent at the family cabin at Alberta Beach where she made many life-long friends and countless fond memories.  Carol found a passion for travel that took her to many places including Vietnam, Australia, Cambodia and to Maui, one of her favorites.

Carol enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her loved ones, especially over the holidays and collected a large library of cookbooks, always looking for the next great recipe. She adored the outdoors and when it came to gardening she had an amazing green thumb.  She loved spending time working in her yard, especially if she had her dogs or her “grandpups” by her side.

She was well known to be a fierce mama bear and the ultimate hockey mom. Her grandchildren were closest to her heart. There was no denying, they were the people she loved the most. Watching them grow and spending time with them brought her a great amount of joy.

The family would like to thank the staff at the University of Alberta Hospital for their kind and compassionate care extended to Carol.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to the Edmonton Humane Society or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
