It is in profound sadness and broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend, Darlene Gauthier, on August 29th, 2020, at the young age of 60, in Edmonton, AB.

Darlene was a devoted mother and grandmother. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family. She had undeniable loving energy that radiated and was felt by anyone who was in her presence.

She lived to serve the community. Darlene transformed a single act of kindness into a foundation, Purses Filled with Love, that provided for many in Edmonton’s inner-city.
Her memory will continue to live through everyone that she has touched, her family, friends, and community.

Darlene will be missed and loved forever and always by her Children; Jode Gauthier (Erin), Lacey MacMillan (Pablo), and Misty MacMillan (Sam); her grandchildren Chase Campbell, Anthony Giroux, Ethan Lariviere, and Max Gauthier; her siblings, Elsie Whiskeyjack (Francis), Irene Berland (Lawrence), Leonard Gauthier, Larry Gauthier (Lois), Laura Waniandy (Dave), Ronald Gauthier (Alice), Angela Gauthier (Daryle), and Lloyd Gauthier (Ed). She is preceded in death by her sister Hazel O’ Coffey (Louie), her mother, Clara Gauthier, and her father, Henry Gauthier.

Due to COVID restrictions, a small private service will be held on Wednesday, September 16th for the invited family at Trinity Funeral Home 10530-116 Street. A live stream will be available via the family.

  1. It was utter disbelief when I heard you had left us. My heart has been heavy and sad ever since. When I think of your unapologetic zest for life and love, you still make me smile. You did life on your own terms with gusto and I so loved that about you. My friend, my cuzzy you are missed by me.

  2. My heartfelt condolences. I knew Darlene through Purses filled with Love ❤️ I will miss her beautiful spirit. She was an inspiration to me. She captured many beautiful pictures. I miss her ❤️

    • Dee gave birth to my best friend, in my life- her son. I met Dee and her family through him and she accepted me into her home and heart. Dee left a unique mark on my heart and she taught me invaluable lessons about life and family. I still feel her close as she always reminded us that family in heaven gives signs.
Dee was a relentless mother. She loved her children and grandchildren the most and she would pave the road before them so they had ground to walk. And Dees children and grandchildren carry this same trait now.

To her kids and grandkids, sorry is not enough. All I can say is that you are so loved by family and friends. Thank you for sharing your mom with us. I love you so much and am always here.

Dee, thank you auntie. I love you so much. ♥️

  5. Sending my Deepest Condolences to Misty, Anthony, Lacey and the rest of the Family

May you have faith and gain strength in the love your Mamma/Grandma/Sister/Aunt and friend has for you; that she will always be near you; loving you and supporting you all. The power of love never ends it has no boundaries.

  6. First & foremost I am truly sorry for Darlene’s family for the loss of an outstanding mother, grandmother/kookum, auntie & friend. I first met this amazing woman almost 4 yrs ago through her wonderful organization Purses Filled With Love. When I first met Darlene the warm, loving, caring feeling I received was tremendous. It felt I had known her for many yrs & I knew there would be a long lasting friendship. Over these few yrs when I’d dropped off my crocheted beanies, toques & purses for her to distribute to the less fortunate ladies our bond grew stronger & stronger. We’d always give each other hugs as no words were required but the feelings were very powerful. Thank you my friend for being you & for loving everyone. I miss your sense of humor & your friendship. You truly left a special impression in my heart. Your love for butterflies is exactly the same as mine my friend. Rest easy & spread your wings & fly & continue to look over your loved ones. XOXOXOXO

    • My sincere and heartfelt sympathies for the loss of Darlene. I will remember her as a kind and supportive neighbor.
Deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
