It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dawn Mendes De Franca on January 1, 2021, at the age of 80 years.

Dawn is survived by her children Christina (Mark) and David; Her granddaughters Brittney, Brooke and Taylor; her brother Philip (Chris), sister-in-law Dolores, nieces Agnetha and Michelle and nephew’s Roger, Gavin and Craig.

Dawn was predeceased by her husband Noel, Brothers Colin and Gordon, sister Carol and niece Debbie.

Dawn was born to her late parents Edna and Percy in Georgetown, Guyana and dedicated her life to career she loved as a Registered Nurse.

Dawn dedicated her life to her friends and family. She was a generous, caring, cheerful and loved to socialize with people. From singing happy birthday for your birthday or calling just to say hi she wanted the best for everyone. She loved her children and granddaughters dearly and she is loved by many and missed by all.

The family would like to thank the staff at Miller Crossing Care Long Term Care Home and Sturgeon Community Hospital for their compassion and warm care during mom’s time there.

A celebration of Dawn’s life will be held at a later date with the current covid-19 restrictions. The family looks forward to reminiscing with all when we are able to do so.

  1. Dawn and I were inseparable growing up even when both our parents immigrated to the U K. At the beginning, she lived in Liverpool,; I in London, and every time we connected we laughed and laughed and laughed until our stomachs hurt. So my beloved cousin, I’ll miss the laughs. and fun things you brought to my life. Rest in Glory with our mighty Father. Love you much much.

    • Thank you Bridget for your lovely words. Mom always thought dearly of you and spoke so highly of you. She loved speaking about your younger years and all the fun you had. Thank you for everything you e done for mom through out the years. It’s a large spot in my heart that can never be replaced.

    Dawn was a wonderful, fun loving friend of mine for over 40 years,
    we worked back at the EGH together when it was an active treatment hospital.
    I am so glad we kept in touch over the years.
    She always maintained her sense of humour and was always willing
    to help someone out . I have many fond memories of her and her laughter.
    I will miss my dear friend. Rest In Peace .

  7. Dawn was one of the best colleagues at the EGH ICU.
    She was very compassionate and patient centred. She also made us laugh when things got black and kept us entertained.
    As a friend she’d have you over and we’d reminisce of the old days and discuss the state of the world. She loved her kids and grandkids to bits and talked about them. A true friend and colleague.

  8. I have so many beautiful memories of Dawn and Noel when they lived in Trinidad.
    Their friendship meant a lot
    to me and my wife and we’re regular visitors to their home.She was a caring and gregarious, her laughter was her trade Mark
    She will be missed but her Noel will be there to take her had into heaven.
    Our sympathies go to all the children and family.

    and mom when I could not walk, she gave us S I lent Unity number for us to pray which was very encouraging.

  14. Christina, David, Phil and Chris. May you find consolation in remembering the gifts Dawn gave you are yours forever. Her laughter, her words of wisdom, the memories you created with each other and always her love. Hope it comforts you to remember how special she was as a mother, a sister and a friend.   17. I am so sorry for your loss. My sincere condolences to the families. I remember her as being a gentle and kind, caring soul. I was a nanny for her children for a brief time when Christina and David were in grade school. My name is Lisa C. She was a good and devoted mom. I met her through my mom Modesta, when my mom worked at the General Hospital in Edmonton, AB many years ago. That is how I came to know her family. Remember that her spirit will always live on in all of you. May she rest in peace.
