Delmer Albert Colin Anderson, 59, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on January 23 2019 in Edmonton, AB
He is survived by his children; Lawrence (Vanessa), Matthew, and Amelia, his grandchildren; Molly and Noel. His siblings, David (Charlotte), Susan-Colleen, Sharon, and Tricia; his nieces and nephews; Alexis, Chelsea, Lawrence John I, Christian and Lawrence John II. He is also survived by numerous other loved family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and June Anderson, and his nephews Zachary and Catlin.
Del was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on July 13 1959. He moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1979 as an eager-to-work 20 year old man. After a battle with addictions he decided in 1987 to begin his journey of sobriety that he conquered just shy of 32 years. Through out these years he stayed deeply involved in his community and committed to his goal. He was known as the guy who always had a story to tell, a good word to share, some wisdom, or a bad joke.
He loved his indigenous roots, he was a cultural keeper, he loved hunting, and fishing, working with his hands, picking medicine, berries, and staying connected to the earth.
He lived a simple life, not always by choice, but with that his love stayed strong; a caring heart that was shared with his friends and family when needed. His mentorship and contagious laughter will be dearly missed.
We’d like to thank the Emergency Response Team, the Doctors, and Nurses at the Royal Alexander Hospital who fought hard to try to keep him in this world. We appreciate what you have to do on a regular basis, thank you for giving yourself for this kind of work.
All are welcome to attend the wake scheduled for Tuesday January 29, 2019 from 6-9pm at Trinity Funeral Home
My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. Del will be missed by many as he was truly a Pillar in the recovery Community. I am grateful to have been blessed to trudge the road along side of him.
He didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk. Hiy hiy Del for the caring human being that you are.

Del, adopted me as His Mentor, Friend and Brother in 1987 when he came to my Reserve Home to undergo “Rituals of Wellness”. These fasting rituals remain a vital connection to our relationship and ultimate “Friendship”, and “Traditional Brotherhood”. He became my sole connection to Urban Life when my Family decided to launch a new way of life in moving to Edmonton in 2006. We hunted the foothills, mountains, and the Boreal Forest in search of the depleting Traditional Medicine, our traditional lifestyle that has withstood Colonization despite its Urban Setting. I will Physically miss my traditionally adopted-loved Brother, for who he was, what he was, and why our lives interconnected, but such is destiny. I have yet to Cry, as we will remain forever connected Spiritually. God Bless us all.

It was an honour to have u as a very gd friend. It was also honour for you to present me with my 36 yr AA bday cake last October. I remember the first couple yrs of my sobriety when we hung out most weekends. The many dances we went to n the dance practises we attended. When u told me that u looked up to me n that I was a role model for u, i was very honoured. I remember the talks we had about sobriety. I was proud that u ended up finding ur own path in sobriety. I will miss u my friend

Del will be missed. I met Del when I first started my own journey many years ago. His words of wisdom helped me in many as I walked a new path. Wish I could be there however I am in my own physical recover y at the moment.
My condolences to his family. I met Del when he and I were employed at creating hope society a more than a few more years back. I still ran into him at meetings, cultural events. Del was quite the character always a smile on his face, he had quite the sense of humour we shared many belly laughs. Last time I seen him which was a couple months ago we were at a meeting and we were asked to be quite cause disruptionung the meeting as we were laughing too much. Rest In Peace my friend.
