Edward Gordon Morley
July 17, 1930 - June 10, 2020
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward (Ed) Gordon Morley on June 10, 2020 at the age of 89 years. He is survived and sadly missed by his loving wife Elizabeth of 67 years, son David (Andrea) of Edmonton, son Raymond (Josephine) of Moncton, New Brunswick, grandchildren Tangraya (Devon), Jennifer, Thomas and Cameron, great-granddaughter Rebecca, as well as all of his other family members, friends and military comrades who he was so proud of.
Ed will always be remembered as a kind and loving man who served his country with valour and pride, and enjoyed his continuing association with his comrades. A celebration of life with be held at a later date.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Ed was raised in St. Catharines, Ontario where he attended high school and enlisted in the Canadian army. He served with valour and pride with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry until wounded in action in Korea. Ed was also a qualified paratrooper.
Transferring to the RCASC, he served in many locations in Canada as well as a tour of duty in Laos (1965) and Germany (1969-71). Retiring from the army in 1973, he was employed with the Animal Health Division of Alberta Agriculture and retired in 1989. Ed was an avid reader and loved to read a good book while camping with the family in his motorhome or relaxing on the beaches of Hawaii, Mexico and Cuba. He loved attending military functions and enjoyed his 3 revisits to Korea with his son David. He was a perfect husband, father and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him, including his faithful puppy Spencer, and his special niece Ethelyn of St. Catharines, Ontario.

Loving and Missing You Forever, Your Loving Wife Elizabeth and Family
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Ed and his wife Elizabeth at their home, while visiting my uncle’s wife, Joyce Wilson; who lives nearby in the same complex. I cherish my conversations with them both. Ed’s wartime Korean and Peacekeeping stories while a Paratrooper in the Canadian Army, and Elizabeth’s Travels with a Ed and the Family was really a fascinating piece of Canadian history.
My wish is that Elizabeth and the Morley Families will soon have their feeling of loss and sorrow be replaced by wonderful thoughts and memories of a man, father, grandfather and friend who made a difference in his Iife, family and Country. God Bless, Ed!

Elizabeth Morley and Family, including Spencer –
I write to express to you Elizabeth and your family the sincere condolences of the Patricias on the passing of Ed Morley. I cannot say that I met your husband as our periods of service only briefly overlapped, and he had long since remustered to Service Corps when I joined – but once a Patricia as we say, always a Patricia.
Canada and the Regiment remember Ed’s service, and you and your family I am sure are proud of that service. His time in Korea was powerful for him, as evidenced by his three return journeys with David, and so would have been Laos and Germany. Ed’s name will be read in this year’s list of the lost when we read that list out this November in the Scared Space in Beechwood, the National Military Cemetery, Ottawa. His name will also be listed in the 2020 edition of the Patrician’s Last Post section.
Elizabeth – thank you for obviously supporting Ed throughout his post-Korea service and later – 67 years of marriage is a grand achievement. We are glad that he had a vibrant family and, we hope, a good life after the army. His obituary certainly says so.
We also hope you and your family can remember Ed fondly as a soldier as well as a husband,father,grandfather,great-grandfather. Thank you all.

We are so sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. I know you will miss him terribly. It was a pleasure to know him.
My condolences to Ed’s family. I meet Ed through the PPCLI Association and enjoyed his many stories about his service and his holidays. We shared our common complaints about the DVA over a few beer and a few good laughs. It was a pleasure and a honour to have meet Ed.

My condolence to Elizabeth and the Morley Family. I was privileged to know and work with Ed since he joined the Animal Health Staff at Alberta Agriculture. A true gentleman, kind and compassionate to all his co-workers. Obviously passionate about his service for our Country and his love for his family. I am so sorry for your loss.
