It is with heavy hearts that the family of George (Bud) Whelan (Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay) announce his passing at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton on Friday, June 28th, 2019 at the age of 56 years. Predeceased by his father George (2009); sisters Shari (1970) and Jackie (2005); nephew John (2008); grandparents Jack & Sadie Whelan and Johanna & Oswald Kelly.

Leaving to mourn his loss: daughter Kayla (Tracy); partner Charlie Hayes (Jazminn, Garrett and family); Kayla’s mother Beverley (Wes); mother Mary; brother Bob; sisters Teresa Bullen (John), Anne Squires (Billy), Marie, Geraldine, and Cheryl Bussey (Dave); best friend Gloria Lichty of Edmonton. Special friends Melissa Hagen and family. Also leaving to mourn a large circle of family including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Special thanks and appreciation to all of the caring staff of the Royal Alexandra Hospital and to Jennifer for her kindness and compassion during his final days. As Cheryl said, “all heroes don’t wear capes, but some do wear white coats and scrubs and take loving care of their hospital patients”.

At Georges request, cremation has taken place. Visitation to be announced at a later date with burial to follow in Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay.

  8. I’m so sorry to hear about Bud. He was always fun to be around and I will never forget his speech to the school board when he was trying to keep the school from closing – it was beautiful and compassionate and he brought the house down.

  11. Hi I am Gloria. George was my best friend. We used to work together and our friendship started a little after he moved to Edmonton. My heart is full of sadness. I loved my friend dearly. We supported one another through good and bad. Oh did we laugh he made me laugh everyday right up top our last visit in the hospital. No matter how bad things were sometimes we managed to pull each other through ?. God took my George home, away from the pain and suffering. George will be sadly missed by me and Mege (my dog) she too loved her George. Rest In Peace my beautiful friend, I know you will never be far away because I will always and forever carry you in my hear ♥. My deepest sympathies go to your wonderful family .
