Joan Mary Lightbody (nee Booth)

Born February 2, 1933

Our beloved Joan passed away on Friday, August 3rd, 2018.
Her final days were spent at Norwood Hospice, surrounded by family.

Joan was predeceased by Merle, her cherished husband of 48½ years, brother in law, Joe Heller, sister in law, Marjorie (Gordon) Brown, nephew, Patrick John Heller, and parents Gladys and Frank.

Joan will be sadly missed by the Lightbody girls and their families including 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Rae (Richard) Desaulniers of Fort Langley, BC, Laura (Joe) Creron of West Kelowna, BC, Jane Lightbody Thomas, Lynn (Harold) Rakowski, Karen (Dave) Mercier, and Margo Lightbody, of Calgary AB. Grandchildren: Jacky and Richie Desaulniers, Johnathan Creron, Colleen (Mitch) Wright, Sandra (Trevor) Buckley and their children; Finn and Isla, Tom (Kayla) Creron, Lauren , Sally and Sean Thomas and their father Rick, Kevin (Danielle) Rakowski and their children; Kennedie and Jackson, Sam Rakowski, Alex Rakowski, Ciara (Jeff) Buchan , Luc Mercier, Barry (Melissa) Mercier, Laura Mercier, Jadan Patel and his father; Anul.

Joan is survived by all of her siblings, Keith (Margaret) Booth, Helen Heller, Barry (Carol) Booth and her numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.
Joan was lovingly cared for at home by her daughters for the last 9 months of her life. That experience birthed a new relationship with their mother and each other.

In Joan`s own words, “I had a fantastic life!”

Joan pursued many passions; golf, curling, bridge, gardening and cooking to name just a few. Joan was a renowned hostess who happily entertained large groups of family and friends throughout her life. She was also an 85 year old computer whiz and bookkeeper extraordinaire up until the last few months of her life.

To honour Joan, you could plan a special meal to share with your family or friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either The Canadian Red Cross or the Hope (Edmonton) Mission.

A memorial service celebrating Joan’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 1:00 pm at the Parish of St. Stephen the Martyr, 11725 93 St., Edmonton.
