November 4, 2020 7 Condolences Print Obituary Send Flowers

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) Emmerzael announce his passing on October 31, 2020 after an incredible battle with cancer.

He is warmly and lovingly remembered as someone who cherished spending time with family and doting on his grandkids. He always enjoyed sitting by a campfire, listening to music, driving his Westfalia (Westie), traveling abroad, and having a meaningful conversation. He was known for his soft heart and ability to make you feel heard.

He is predeceased by his parents Peter and Evertje Emmerzael, as well as his son Jonathan Emmerzael. He is survived by his loving wife Hetty Emmerzael, children Stephanie (Shaun) Scade, Kristyn (Mazi) Emmerzael, David (Lisa) Emmerzael, Breanna (Andrew) Scholotiuk and five precious grandchildren, Neko, Ari, Arlo, Levon and Guilon. He is also survived by his siblings, Fred Emmerzael, Bill Emmerzael, Barb Winkler, and Marlene Van der Boor, along with his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

Due to restrictions of COVID we are limited in our ability to gather. We plan to have a campfire going over the next few days and hope that we can gather around it in his honour. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to stop by and share a story or memory of Bob.

On Friday, November 13, 2020 at 10:00am you can tune into CKUA Radio Network (94.9fm) for a one-hour program dedication during Mid Morning Mojo with Baba in memory of Bob Emmerzael. We can enjoy his vast musical tastes all together.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Cross Cancer Institute at https://www.albertacancer.ca/donate/ or to his sponsored hour of music on the CKUA Radio Network at www.ckua.com. Details of an online tribute will also follow.

  3. Dear Hetty and family, Dave and I were so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing but thankful that he is in peace and without pain now. We will always remember his friendship and the great visits we’ve had over the years. He was a wonderful, friendly, kind and caring man with a great sense of humour. We will miss him and always remember dear Bob. With much love, Dave and Aneta

  4. Hettie, Josie and I join the many friends and mourners who will miss knowing Bob is here among us. We pray our Lord of Mercy will guide your days ahead and give you peace at this time of suffering this profound loss. Blessings to you and your family.

  5. My sincere condolences. I worked with Bob at AHS. Your words that he had a soft heart and the ability to make you feel heard are exactly how I remember Bob. I won’t remember anything about “work” with Bob (which is wonderful), I will remember that he always replied with kindness, care and humour. He loved to see pics of our families and especially to share pics of his. He was always positive, encouraging, and willing to take on anything with a positive attitude. Simply put, To know him was to love him, he was just a likeable guy that always had time to listen, and the kindest, gentle way about him. He always talked about his family, with so much joy, pride and love. Our hearts are with you, and will be for a long time.

  6. Dear Hetty and family: I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He was an amazing guy and I really enjoyed working with him. We were rookies together on the AHE Fire Department and attended Vermilion Fire School together. I enjoyed our chats and his support to me during my own cancer journey. Lots of fun and memories of our time living on the hospital grounds. God has gained a great video tech and special man. May your memories sustain you through this difficult time.

  7. Dear Hetty and Family,
Deep heartfilled thoughts for you during this time. Bob was a beautiful soul who will be missed by all.
