He enjoyed a broad range of interests including music and other arts, science, nature, travel and sports. Rod touched many lives and valued his friends. He was respected for his intelligence, integrity and desire for fair play. He was loyal and generous, with a passion for helping and mentoring others. A gentle man, Rod was humble and grateful for his life, trying with grace and dignity to do what was best for the greater good.

Heartfelt thanks are extended to the physicians, healthcare staff, and others who provided support, assistance and compassion as Rod encountered health challenges.

Rod wished those who knew him would remember him in their own special way, therefore no funeral will be held.

We love you Rod. You are always in our hearts. Your legacy and spirit will live on.
Life’s work is done. Rest in peace.

To honour Rod’s memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YMCA of Northern Alberta or to a Food Bank.

  1. Very fortunate to have visited with Rod and Heleen in Florida several years
ago and was amazed at how similar my childhood memory of him had not changed.
He was the same joyful man with an open kind heart and ready chuckle. I am
very thankful for the brief times spent with him.

  2. While looking at Rod’s photo above I can almost hear that “ready chuckle”! His father, our Grandpa Roy, had that same chuckle.
I would call Uncle Rod a Renaissance Man, so accomplished and caring and humble. We loved him very much and wish him peace and joy forever.

  3. A beautiful tribute to a wonderful friend and neighbour! We will miss your smile and wit out and around the yard!
Heleen – we are right through the gate, always! ❤️
