Catherine Louise Brown

It is with deep love and tremendous sadness that the family of Catherine Louise Brown announces her sudden and unexpected passing on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 73, in Edmonton, Alberta. Cathy passed peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Born on November 9, 1952, in Dartmouth, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Cathy was the eldest of eight children born to Richard and Gloria Brown, both of whom predeceased her. From an early age, she carried a natural warmth and strength that would become the foundation of her life and the lives she touched.

Cathy lived a life defined by kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones. In the early 1980s, she met her true love, Howard John Cromwell, with whom she shared over 32 years of partnership, laughter, and countless cherished memories until his passing in 2015. Together, they built a home that became a gathering place for family and friends—a place filled with love, joy, and the unmistakable comfort of Cathy’s presence.

Christmas at Cathy’s home became a beloved family tradition, one that all who knew her looked forward to and will deeply miss. She found joy in hosting get togethers, celebrating milestones, and creating moments that brought everyone closer. She was, in every sense, the glue that held her family together.

Cathy was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She leaves behind her children John (Leann), Melanie, and Tracy (Phil); her grandchildren Arianna, Seth, Noah, Liam, Cassie, Aiden, Alivia, and Leo; and her siblings Anne (Peter), Steven (Annie), Colin (Faye), Michael (Angela), Kevin (Eileen), and Lisa (Blaine). She is predeceased by her brother Rick, who passed in 2022.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff of the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at the University of Alberta Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Cathy and her family during her final days.

Cathy’s legacy of love, generosity, and togetherness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
