With deep sadness, the family announces the passing of Maureen Wendy Sorenson on July 12, 2026, in her hometown of Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 67.
Born in Edmonton on May 27, 1959, Maureen was a woman of immense warmth, kindness, laughter and generosity. While Edmonton was her lifelong home, her heart truly belonged to Jasper, Alberta. She found endless peace and joy in the mountains, Back home, Maureen expressed her love through baking, always delighting family and friends with sweet treats made straight from the heart. (the best cabbage rolls , the fluffiest cream puffs & the best chocolate cream cheese muffins you would ever taste)
Maureen’s greatest legacy is her family. She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Margaret Kimber, and her devoted daughter, Jennifer Sorenson, along with her son-in-law, Evan Chapman. She was a deeply proud Nana to Ava and Elyse Chapman, the two granddaughters who were her absolute pride and joy. She also leaves behind her siblings Gerald (Lorna) , Garry (Margaret) , Kathy (Rudi), Doug (Ellen); her step-sister, Stacelynn; her lifelong best friend since grade one, Kathy McIvor; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she treasured , bragged about and adored.
Maureen is now reunited in heaven with her beloved stepfather, Vern Kimber; her sister-in-law, Lorna; her cherished Nana, whom she missed immensely; and her favorite dog, Tiny.
A private viewing will be held for the immediate family.
A celebration of Maureen's life will take place in the coming months, with details to be announced by the family once finalized.
