Ryu Yokoo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ryu Yokoo, age 62, of Edmonton, who passed away on August 26, 2026, following a short but aggressive battle with cancer.

After moving to Canada in 2000, Ryu pursued his passion for music and graduated from the Grant MacEwan Music Program in 2003 with a major in Performance. He went on to share his love of music with others, performing at local venues and festivals throughout the years. Ryu also had the privilege of teaching many students, a role he was incredibly proud of and cherished deeply.

Ryu was predeceased by his parents, Kiyoyuki and Katsuko, and his beloved wife, Mary.

He will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Hajime; sister-in-law, Kiyomi; and his special niece, Shiori, all of Japan. He is also survived by his four stepchildren and their families, as well as a large extended family and many friends across Canada.

Ryu’s love of music, kind spirit, and the memories he created with those around him will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

May he rest in peace with his beloved Mary, together once again.
