June Adaline Peggy Inniss Best
June Adaline Peggy Inniss Best, age 90, of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2026, with family by her side.
Born on December 19th, 1935 in Barbados, West Indies, “Peggy” was a woman of rare warmth and undeniable spirit. All who knew Peggy would describe her as loving and feisty; she was someone who spoke her mind with honesty and lived her life with conviction. While Peggy spent her years raising her three boys at home, it was often said that she truly raised a community.
Peggy devoted a lifetime of service to the Community of Cote des Neiges in Montreal, Quebec, and she was a fixture of strength whom everyone knew and loved.
Peggy was the beloved center of her family and the guiding partner to her husband of 62 years, Richard Best. Together, they built a life defined by community and laughter. Peggy is survived by Richard; their three sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Amy, Matthew and Arlene, and Kyle and Sheila; and a proud legacy of eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. To her family, Peggy was a fierce protector; to her neighbors, she was a steady friend; and to her community, Peggy was a matriarch who wasn't afraid to speak up for what was right.
Her presence was felt in every room she entered, and her bold heart and generous spirit shaped the community she loved so dearly.
She was recently predeceased by her two sisters, Patricia and Pauline and her brother, Peter. Peggy was also preceded in death by her parents, Adaline Sayers and Edgar DaCosta Inniss.

We offer our sincere condolences to the Best family during this difficult time. Mrs. Best was deeply loved and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. I first met her through my mother, Alex, who spoke of her with great affection from her time as her student. It was impossible not to be moved by Mrs. Best’s warmth and gracious, inviting nature.
Dearest Richard, Matthew, Sean, Kyle and Family, Lovely service Peggy would have been so proud of you. There were touching moments, some laughter and true words for your wife and mother whom we loved so much and miss everyday.
I still look for her across the street and sadly remember she is gone. Peggy loved all of you with her whole being. She will never be forgotten. I know Brian, Laurie and I think of Peggy and Richard with fond memories of their days here with us.
