Arne Daniel Skumlien

December 31, 2020 5 Condolences Print Obituary Send Flowers

One of the greatest men to walk the face of the earth went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of December 26, 2020, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. His firm belief in God and his devotion to his family supported him through his illness and gave him peace.

Arne Daniel Skumlien was born to Ole and Borghild Skumlien on August 7, 1936 in Raufoss, Norway. He was the best husband, dad, gramps, uncle, brother, friend, and so much more. He was the most kind, giving, loving, compassionate, godly person we know. Even more important than the great man he was, our Dad had a great Savior. Dad loved the Lord, he loved the Word of God, and he loved to tell people about the love of Jesus. His hope was not in the things of this world, but in Christ and because of that, even though we are heartbroken, and we grieve, we do not grieve as those who have no hope.

Dad will be forever loved, cherished, and deeply missed by so many, but we are so thankful for the years God gave him to us and for the knowledge that one day, because we serve the same Lord, we will see him again in a place where there is no sickness.

Arne joins his parents; Ole and Borghild; four siblings, David, Einar, Solveig, and Hannah; father-in-law, Oswald; and mother-in-law, Jenny in heaven.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mildred; his three daughters, Delona, Delinda, and Rhonda; his three son-in-laws, Scott, Robert, and Dave; his three grandchildren, Jordan, Matthew, and Danielle; his brother, Trygve and family; and extended family in Norway and Amisk.

Arne Daniel will be laid to rest on December 30, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Peace Cemetery in Devon, Alberta surrounded by his immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Devon Christian School would be greatly appreciated (e-transfer to dcs@devonchristianschool.ca). Arne absolutely loved Devon Christian School and did a lot of behind-the-scenes projects and prayed daily for the students and staff of Devon Christian School.

“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives all fear is gone. Because I know, He holds the future and life is worth the living just because He lives.”
