Benjamin Tym
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Benjamin Tym at the age of 88. After a courageous period of declining health, Ben passed away surrounded by the love and memories of the family who cherished him.
Ben was born on April 23, 1938, in Gross Romanov, Russia. His early childhood was shaped by significant hardships and harsh living conditions during WWII in Germany, but he maintained an optimistic outlook on life due to his faith in God. Ben arrived in Canada in 1949 at the age of 11, where he, his mother Martha, and sister Magdelana settled into a peaceful life.
His love of technology started as a young man. Early in his career he learned to be an automotive mechanic and to make ends meet he repaired watches. Always willing to learn something new, he studied and became an electrician, quickly moving onto becoming an instrumentation technician. He was an excellent draftsman and prepared detailed plans for each project he tackled.
He brought a unique strength, resilience, intelligence and perspective to everything he did throughout his life. Ben was an inspiration, he always worked with excellence in mind and endeavored to be proficient in everything he did. No task was too big to tackle and no problem was too large to solve. Ben was always first to volunteer for a project and gave his time and talents generously.
Ben loved the outdoors which led him to become an expert outdoorsman. He loved to be in the mountains for many days in a row breaking trail, rock climbing and enduring harsh mountain storms and was always eager to share his love and appreciation for the outdoors with friends and family, even taking three small girls on overnight hikes.
On May 24, 1957, he married the love of his life, Julia Winton. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, a deep love for one another, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a lasting partnership that spanned nearly seven decades.
Ben was a kind man who was highly devoted to his family and poured his heart and soul into them. He leaves behind a profound legacy through his wife, Julia Tym, sister Magdelena Dreher, and three beloved daughters: Tracy Schlodder (Dietmar), Shelley Rushford (David), and Lisa Tym (Stephan Frenette); his nieces, Gloria Fanslau (Ron), Judy Dreher, Grace Kennelly, his grandchildren, Tiffany Vanderzyde (Jon), Michele Edwards (Derek), Shane Tym, Nicholas Schlodder, Kalyn Pocha, Tyler Pocha, Colten Pocha and 7 great grandchildren: Rorie, Audrey, Quinnley, Ewan Vanderzyde, Theodore Fersovitch, and Harlan and Reilly Edwards.
He will be remembered with deep love and affection by his wife, Julia, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends, neighbors and colleagues.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare professionals and caregivers who provided comfort and support during his final months.

My heartfelt condolences to my extended family of my brother-in-law,Ben. I couldn’t have asked for a better brother-in-law. Always so kind and caring. I have wonderful memories of family time and vacations together. You will be missed by so many.
