Christine Angela Bourne was born in Upminster, England, on May 11, 1948. After graduating from nursing school in England, where she gathered lifelong friends, she moved to Canada intending to stay for only a year. Instead, Canada became her home for more than 55 years.

Following brief stops in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, and Canmore, where she continued gathering lifelong friends, Christine settled in Hinton, Alberta, where she lived for more than 50 years. She worked at Hinton General Hospital until her retirement in 2013. During her many years at the hospital, she cared for countless patients and formed even more friendships that lasted a lifetime.

While devoted to her career, Christine also raised her two sons. Retirement did little to slow her down. She volunteered with several non-profit organizations in Hinton, gathering still more lifelong friends, and wholeheartedly embraced her role as a loving and devoted grandmother. She graciously left her entire estate to her five grandchildren.

Her proudest achievement was, without a doubt, mastering the art of driving a motorhome. For decades, she toured Western Canada and beyond, with her sons and their friends, her own friends, and even the occasional hitchhiker. Her travels took her over every imaginable type of road and as far away as Las Vegas. Countless memories were made, and with every breakdown came another story.

She would be immensely happy to know that her beloved motorhome, Stanley, will remain in the family and continue to be commandeered by female drivers.

Proudly English, Christine eventually became a Canadian citizen after 30 years in Canada, following some friendly encouragement from her good friends Ron and Mary. She took great pride in her citizenship and faithfully fulfilled her civic duty by voting in every election.

Christine died unexpectedly on July 3, 2026. Her passing was peaceful and without suffering, surrounded by her family, just as she would have wanted.

She was predeceased by her son, Paul, grandson Ryker, and her cousin, Colin. She is survived by her sons, Lawrence (Christina) and David (Joanna), and by her cherished grandchildren, Daxton, Savana, Sparrow, River, and Juno.

In accordance with Christine’s wishes, a celebration of her life will be held on September 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hinton Bridges Society, 250 Hardisty Avenue. At noon, family and friends will be invited to share a few words, memories, or reflections in tribute to Christine.
