April 3 1928 to October 12, 2020

With sadness the family of Elizabeth MacGillivray announces her passing on October 12, at the age of 92.

Betty was born and raised in east Calgary and lived most of her life in Calgary with the last two years in Edmonton.

One of seven children, she was predeceased by siblings Katie, John, Herb, Harold, Olive and Bill. Betty was predeceased by her long time partner Bob Kneeshaw and has a long list of surviving nieces and nephews including John, Brian, Tom, Debbie, Nola, Fred, Peggy, Kevin, Janet, Cindy, Jack, Bill and Joan. Betty loved animals especially dogs. Among her many canine friends were Shorty, Irish, Vinnie and Blondie.

Betty was a very smart, feisty, independent woman who enjoyed a full life, a long career with Gulf Oil (where she was one of the first female “Landmen” in the Canadian oil industry back in the 1970’s )and extensive travel.

She received great care at St Joseph’s in Edmonton. At Betty’s request no formal funeral service will be held. Donations can be made in memoriam to the Calgary SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.

 

  1. My condolences to the family. I remember Betty fondly from my days at Gulf Oil on the 14th Flr. Elveden House. We all got along so well with much sharing and laughter. Betty has always remained a special part of remembering my fabulous “Gulf” days.
