It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Grace Yu-Hui Wang at the age of 81 in Edmonton on July 19, 2026.

Grace Yu-Hui Wang was born on February 11, 1945, in Taipei, Taiwan, the eldest of three children in a single-parent household. From an early age, Grace helped her mother care for her younger siblings, and later worked as a teacher to support the home. These roles shaped the fierce love and quiet strength she would carry throughout her life. Despite the hardships of poverty and the weight of responsibility at home and work, Grace earned admission to Taiwan's prestigious National Taiwan University, where she met her future husband, David Hsiao-Tse Wang.

Grace and David had three children, and not long after their youngest was born the family made the bold decision to leave Taiwan. Following a brief stay in Libya, they settled permanently in Edmonton, Canada, in 1980. Building a new life meant adapting to a new language, new trades, and a new culture. Grace met each challenge with her signature tenacity and courage.

In time, Grace became an accomplished Red Seal Cook, a source of great pride for her and a reflection of the determination that defined her. In retirement, Grace found joy in the simple things she loved most: singing in the church choir, playing piano, tending her summer garden, and preparing loving meals for her family and friends.

Grace's light was steady and warm. Her faith in God, her devotion to family, and her joyful spirit will be remembered with love by her family.

Grace was predeceased by her husband David and is survived by her brother and sister, Pi-Zhan Chiang and Su-Hua Chiang, and their families, her three children and, their spouses, Louis (Karen), Theresa (Curtis) and Mary (Rich), and her six grandchildren, Rachel, Megan, Kaylei, David, Brandon and Nathan. To her children, she will forever be a bubbly source of warmth and love. To her grandchildren, she will always be their beloved "Ah-Ma.", deeply loved and forever missed.

Grace’s life will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Edmonton on Aug. 28, 2026. Guests are welcome to bid their farewell to Grace in the church’s Rosary Room starting at 12:00pm. The funeral mass will begin at 1:00pm followed by a reception where her children will share their fondest memories of Grace.

  1. My condolences on your loss. I remember her in the church choir in 1990, she was always a warm and welcome presence.
