Henry Kuik of Edmonton passed away on September 6, 2022.

Henry is loved by his wife Ruth; four adoring daughters and their partners, Debbie (Doug), Kimberly (Paul), Emma (Michael) and Meagan (Kathleen); and six cherished grandchildren, Conor, Emily, Madeline, Ethan, Linus and Lane.

Henry was deeply proud of his family, curious to understand the world and a teacher by both vocation and personality. Henry was a fan of most sports, and most pizzas that didn’t involve pineapple. He was a voracious reader and a watcher of British crime series, except on the nights he was either curling or golfing. He travelled the world with Ruth, returning to his roots in the Netherlands, exploring the Azores and watching his grandchildren play on the beach in Tofino, BC.

Henry’s family and close friends will be gathering for a celebration of his life in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to the Edmonton Food Bank.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Misericordia Hospital, especially that of the 4W ICU, for their steadfast and determined care during Henry’s short stay. The family would also like to thank everyone who reached out during this difficult time. We are forever grateful for the love you showed Henry during his life – we are a better family because of him.

  19. Dear Ruth and family,

I am so sorry to hear of Henry’s passing! I have so many found memories of our time together at Kitaskinaw. He was a mentor to me there when I first started teaching. He was a master teacher who taught me how to trust in my abilities as an educator and as a single parent. He was my sounding board when I was stressed and my rock when I was scared, sad or doubting of my abilities/choices. For 2 more years after we left
Kitaskinaw he continued to mentor me from the sidelines. The ‘Henry-isms’ he shared with me live in my daily life and teaching practice – take the time to enjoy a good book, there is always time for a nap, always find humour in life and more! In our time working together he always spoke of all of you with pride and love! He was a man to look up to and he will be missed. Although there really are no words that will take away the pain and loss you are experiencing my thoughts and prayers are with you and I offer my sincerest condolences on the loss of such a wonderful soul!

  20. Memories are timeless treasures of the heart. May they bring you comfort & peace.
I will treasure my memories of Henry. The laughs we shared working together over the years. He will be missed by so many.
    Louise

  25. My most sincere condolences to all of you but especially to my nieces, Debbie and Kimberly. I always enjoyed the company of Henry although I only saw him once in recent years when my mother and your grandmother passed. I fondly remember him pushing me into a snowbank at the farm so that Guy, your St. Bernard protector, could slobber all over my face. Those, and many other memories of that time, will stay with me always. Arms around you.
