José Luis Da Silva
September 15, 1940 - March 25, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family of José Da Silva announce the passing of their father and grandfather at the age of 81 from Alzheimers.
José was born in Machico, Madeira, Portugal. As a young boy, his family moved to Sao Miguel, Azores where he spent his formative years and was well known as “Madeirinha” playing soccer for Clube Desportivo Santa Clara. He immigrated to Canada in 1965, returned to Sao Miguel in 1967 to marry and brought his new wife Maria Rosa to Edmonton in 1968 where they made their home.
José is predeceased by his wife Rosa, grandson Zachary and his siblings: Paulino, Eduardo, Ernesto, Virgilio, Francisco, Irene and Mary Jo.
José leaves behind his children Rosemary (Robert) and Alexander (Maryann) and his cherished grandchildren Madison, Marissa and Christopher along with his siblings Fatima, Eugenia, Manuela and Edmundo as well as many sister and brother in-laws, nieces and nephews, family and close friends in Canada, United States and Portugal.
The family would like to especially thank all the health care aids and nurses who tirelessly and compassionately cared for their father during the last three years at Shepherd’s Care Vanguard. The family also thanks Dr. Z. Vicarrudin for her compassionate care of their dear father during his final days.
