It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Manfred Peter Barth at the age of 73 at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Manfred was born in Stuttgart, Germany and immigrated to Canada with his parents and sister in 1954. They settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He would eventually spend time in Borden, Manitoba and Raymond, Alberta, before finally settling in Edmonton in the mid 1970s. Over the course of his life, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, coal mines in southern Alberta, retired from Canada Post, and worked as a delivery driver for various auto parts suppliers.

Manfred (Fred) was an avid reader. He loved trains, airplanes and classic cars. He enjoyed music from the 50s and 60s. He passed his time building car and plane models, watching CFL football with his son, and spending time with his grand daughters. He loved his Winnipeg Blue Bombers, going to the Indy Races with his daughter when they were hosted in Edmonton, going to air shows, car shows, and the Alberta Railway Museum. He enjoyed chatting with friends, was a wonderful conversationalist, and liked to debate current events.

He leaves behind to mourn his passing his son, Michael, and daughter Deanna, son in law Malcolm, two grand daughters Gabriella and Victoria, his sister Walli (Jim), brother Bob (Ruth), nieces Tara (Jim), Kelly, Lindsey, and Leah, great nieces and nephews, and his late wife's beloved dog, Shiloh.

He was predeceased by his mother, Erna, his father, Karl, his brother, Wolfgang, his first wife, Linda, and his second wife, Heather (Martha).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Edmonton Humane Society or the Edmonton Public Library, a facility Fred used frequently through out his adult life.

  1. Deanna, Mike and family,
My sincere condolences in the passing of your dad. He was a wonderful man who treated everyone so well. May you forever carry him in your hearts and see his presence as you watch your daughters grow, attend football games and listen to his favourite music.

    • Thank you Jessie.
