1955 - 2025

With great sorrow we announce that in January 2025, Michael passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly, in his sleep.

He was predeceased by his parents, Vi and Morley Dell; his brother-in-law, Mitch Riley; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mourning his loss is his loving wife and partner of forty-seven years, Ildiko Spisak; his brothers and sisters: Brian (Joanne), James (Gina), Barb, and Jan (Ernie); nieces and nephews; in-laws; as well as his many friends and colleagues.

Michael was a dedicated librarian. Starting as a children's librarian and ending as a branch manager, he worked for Edmonton Public Library until his retirement.

He was a devoted fly fisherman and fly tyer who was always ready to mentor newcomers to the sport. His passion for conservation led him to become an early member of Northern Lights Fly Tyers and Trout Unlimited Canada. He was a past president of the Edmonton chapter of Trout Unlimited for many years. And as a member of these organizations, he was an energetic and enthusiastic volunteer for their many projects.

Michael was a loving and generous partner; a kind brother; and a loyal and caring friend.

The world is a sadder and colder place without him.

On Saturday, May 31st, 2025, from 2pm to 5pm we will hold an informal celebration of Michael's life at Trinity Funeral Home in Edmonton, 10530-116 St NW.

From 2pm to 3pm we will share stories about Michael in the chapel. And from 3pm to 5pm there will be light refreshments.
