Gordon John Hellinga, 67, of Edmonton Alberta, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 21, 2025, at his home in McQueen Place Assisted Living.  Born on December 31, 1957, in Edmonton, he was the beloved son of Willem and Sophie (nee Vonk) Hellinga.

Gordon joined his family on a farm in Spruce Grove Alberta.  He attended the elementary school in Spruce Grove.  When he was in the third grade the family moved to the City of Edmonton, where Gordon attended Calvin Christian school.  After high school Gordon worked for Safeway, and thereafter in the oilfield as a hard band welder.  Working in the oil industry enabled Gordon to travel to Africa, Europe and Asia.  After working for the oil industry Gordon settled back in Edmonton and was a self-employed insulation contractor.  Gordon moved to McQueen Place Assisted Living in Edmonton in 2023 when diagnosed with a lung disability.

Gordon was known for his infectious laugh, especially when teasing someone.  He was loyal to his family and loved to tinker with cars and motorcycles in his extremely organized garage.  Best of all he loved to stay at his cabin at the family farm near Pigeon Lake, Alberta.  His nieces and nephews loved the quad rides in the farm fields that Gordon arranged.  Gordon was always a helping hand on the family farm.  Gordon loved practical jokes and loved to retell the practical jokes while laughing the whole time.  Gordon loved his family and made sure to call his mother daily.

Gordon will be missed by his mother Sophie Tilma of Edmonton,  brother Richard (Dick) Hellinga (spouse Carmen) of Youngstown NY, brother David Hellinga (spouse Kelly) of Bon Accord Alberta, sister Audrey Vanderveen (spouse Ronald) of Edmonton Alberta, sister Yvonne Aikema (spouse John) of Edmonton Alberta, brother Bruce Hellinga of Edmonton, Alberta, and sister Barbara Hellinga of Port Moody BC.

Gordon was preceded in death by his father William Hellinga in 1974 and by his stepfather Art Tilma in 2014.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing and pay last respects this Saturday December 27, 2025, 1:00 – 3:00pm  at Trinity Funeral Home 10530-116 st, Edmonton.

Our father, which art in heaven, hallowed by thine name.  Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth and it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen
