Judith Gail “Judy” Westlake, born November 4, 1949, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 76.

Judy was the beloved daughter of Herbert and Doris Westlake, and the eldest of four siblings: Michael, Kevin, and Dawnelda, mother of Emily. Throughout her life, Judy’s greatest devotion was to her family.

She leaves behind 7 children whom she loved dearly: Shawna Young; David Naismith and his wife Jenny; Timothy Naismith; Mandy Ouellett and her husband Cory; Kristopher Naismith and his wife Andrea; Tara Rutledge and her husband Tim; and Kelly Fancy and his wife Cassie.

In her younger years, Judy had a restless spirit, often describing her gypsy-type ways as “itchy feet.” She lived a life of movement and adventure, traveling across Canada with her children, settling in different cities and provinces for years at a time. Always chasing brighter opportunities and new experiences, she turned every move into a journey of discovery, and she opened her heart and home to those in need, welcoming family members, friends, and anyone facing hard times into her life, and supporting them as best she could. These acts of kindness, combined with her adventurous nature, left her children with vivid memories of exploration, courage, and a life embraced with passion. In time, she found a place to call home, where her adventurous heart was matched by the stability, love, and warmth she provided to the family around her for the rest of her life.

Her lifelong love was for her dogs, who were a constant and cherished part of her family’s life. Not a year went by that her children didn’t grow up with her dogs by their side, sharing in the joys, adventures, and everyday moments of their lives. Her love for her dogs reflected the same care, loyalty, and warmth she extended to everyone around her, making them an inseparable part of her family and her heart.

Her legacy continues through her 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.

Her grandchildren include Kate-Lynn and ShaeD’Lynn; Kevin and Julia; Ashley, Jeffery, Gavin, and Dylan; Taylor and his fiancé Aaryn, and Sierra and her fiancé Rudy; Jordan, Kaidan, Myka, and Paige; as well as Skyler, Allison, Landin, and Meagan. Judy cherished every moment spent with her family and took great pride in their accomplishments.

Her great-grandchildren include Kalena and Keira; Levi and Rowan; Giovanna; Charlie-Rose and Freya.

Judy’s greatest accomplishments were undoubtedly her children and grandchildren. She did have a strong-willed nature at times, but despite facing many hardships throughout her life, she remained steadfast in her commitment to keeping her family together. She ensured that her children experienced the warmth of family connections and created magical moments that will be cherished for generations. Her resilience and perseverance were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Judy will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind as they honor the legacy she created.

Details regarding services will be shared privately with family members at a later date.
