Joseph Treige
Joseph Treige passed into eternal life on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, "in his own room, in his own bed!" at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Center, having been recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, his daughters and son-in-law keeping vigil at this side. Born September 19, 1941 in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to Joseph Treige, Sr. and Theresa (Rosta). Predeceased by his parents and two sisters Hattie (one year) and Theresa Brinston. Survived by one sister Annie Spencer (Gordon), ex-wife "but life-long love and sweetheart" Mary (nee Thomas), and four daughters Charmaine (Madonna House Apostolate), Nancy, Maria Nobert (Dale), and Jo-Ann.
Dad began training and working in the autobody repair trade at 15 years of age and quickly progressed to become one of the most highly skilled and sought after in the business. He soon went out on his own and provided for the family with "Joe Treige's Autobody and Used Car Sales, which included a salvage yard and towing service. He also loved wood-working and carpentry, trees, and landscaping, and was a skilled jack-of-all-trades. After moving to Edmonton about 25 years ago, Joe lived out his last 5 years at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Center in Edmonton.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the entire health care team, as well as the cafeteria and dietary staff, and all the auxiliary and support services who have created a genuine community and family spirit for their residents. We especially acknowledge, with heartfelt thanks, the nurses and entire health care team on the Third Floor, and Dad's Spruce unit, who cared for Dad so lovingly and allowed him to find a life there. Joseph was truly grateful for his time there and called it "God’s gift".

Your great love for Mary and your girls and that infectious laugh and smile; Always up for a good time. Your love for Cape Breton your home land and all those back east held a large piece of your heart. Always a brother in law , always in our hearts , Till we meet again stay between the lines ! And think of us when next you fly over the waters of the Cape . We deeply miss your earthly presence. We do not forget that love leads each child home. For home is in the heart of God!!!

To my dear cousin Mary and family it is so heartbreaking to hear of Joe’s passing. Because, I left home at an early age I did not get to know Joe as well as most. He had a devilish smile but shy. He would visit our home and often had a gift for my Mother, usually something sweet. I remember a box of two-tone seashells and mother expressed her concern about a place she could place them. She said the wall-unit is so full already. Mother, thought they were ornaments . He was so thoughtful of her and she enjoyed his visits. Also, close friends with brother John V. You are all home together. Rest in Peace, You will be missed, all family there are happy to have you home.
