Ronald Bruce Sewell

On the afternoon of August 3, 2026, our beloved Ronald Bruce Sewell — known affectionately as “Papa” by all who knew and loved him — passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Ruth Sewell, as well as his siblings Ray, Nancy, Bobby, Jenny, Kenneth, and Marion. As the eldest of ten children, he helped set the tone for a family rooted in connection, humour, and care. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters Donalda DeMone and Reta Jackson; his brother Brian Sewell (Luz); his daughters Terri Lynn MacLean (Mike) and Tammy Tompkins (Charles); his grandchildren Samantha Jordan (Kyle), Kaelin McGillivray (Owen), Zachary Bresnahan (Grace), Chase Tompkins, Jacob Osmon, and Christian Tompkins; and his six great-grandchildren, all with names beginning with “A”: Aaliyah, Aria, Atlas, Andre, Adelynn, and Atticus.

A devoted father, brother, uncle, great-uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Papa was deeply loved and admired by many. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, and he left an everlasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Above all, Ron was a true family man whose greatest joy came from the people he loved.

In his younger years, Ron was an active and talented athlete who enjoyed skiing, baseball, soccer, and bowling. Later in life, when his knees encouraged a gentler pace, he embraced his love of cards, darts, and especially coaching his girls in their sports. He could often be found cheering proudly from the sidelines at the sporting events of his children and grandchildren — whenever his busy social calendar allowed.

A proud veteran of the RCR, Ron was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed crib tournaments, community events, and the friendships that came with them. He also took part in the Linking Generations program through the Lodge, building meaningful connections between seniors and middle school students.

Right to the end, Ron lived with selflessness, faith, and a caring heart. His Christianity was reflected in the way he gave of himself, looked out for others, and brought kindness into everyday moments.

Heaven has been blessed with another angel to watch over us all.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Ron on August 30, 2026, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 27, in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend, share memories, and celebrate a life so well lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ron’s honour to one of his charities of choice — the MS Society of Canada, the Canadian Red Cross, or The Salvation Army — or to the Royal Canadian Legion Foundation, reflecting his years of active membership with Branch 27.
