A. Thomas Miles

Rev. Thomas Miles (aka Big Tom) passed away on September 2, 2026 surrounded by family in Edmonton, AB. A beloved Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, and a dear friend to those who have had the blessing of knowing him.

Born in Maugerville, Tom was from humble beginnings from a farmstead in New Brunswick and then life's adventures began to call his name. From being a radio show host sharing stories, to a life chapter in the Canadian Armed Forces, Tom eventually settled on attending McGill University to attain a degree in theology. He became a minister with the United Churches of Canada and found himself in many small communities all over Canada. Tom has made a lasting impact on all the churches he served, in particular Summerlea United Church in Lachine, Montreal West United Church, and St Andrews Wesley United Church in Vancouver. He found a life of adventure with his wife Audrey and his two children, that may have resulted in a missed bus once or twice.

For those who have had the opportunity to know Tom know how big his heart was towards others and the meaningful guidance he could provide. His humour, contagious laugh and smiles were often welcomed. He had a humble kind of wisdom and believed in a world of contradictory things finding a way to coexist, perhaps not harmoniously, but with respect ....except maybe for the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He will be deeply missed. He is predeceased by his parents George and Frances Miles, his Wife Audrey, his Brother Charles, his Daughter Susan (Norm). He is survived by his Son Thomas Miles (Valerie), Sisters Katie & Bid Miles, several Nieces and Nephews, his Grandchildren- Tamara, Maura (Alexa), Madeline (David), Amelia, Sarah (John), and one Great Grandchild Violet.

A celebration of life here will be held in the Spring of 2027 at St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church in Vancouver, BC. The date has not yet been determined.
