Cheryl Gibson
Cheryl Mae Gibson of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on Oct. 30th, 2026 at the age of 80 after a two-year journey with cancer.
Cheryl was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, on August 3rd, 1946. She spent part of her youth in Richmond Hill, Ontario with her sister Dorothy's family, a special time she spoke of fondly. Life took Cheryl all over the prairies (Lloyd, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Fort Kent, Cold Lake...) before she settled in Edmonton for the last thirteen years of her life to be closer to her children and cherished grandkids. Cheryl was a kind gentle soul who faced many adversities which never slowed her down or kept her from sharing her deep abiding love for friends and family. She was always mindful of those who had less, and she was generous with her time, creativity, and affection; her lifelong passion for art and her singular wit remained undimmed until the end.
Cheryl was predeceased by her parents Lennis and Dorothy (Dolly) Maxwell, her siblings William, Roy, Dorothy (Fraser), Gordon, Don, Irene (Harris), and her niece, Marilyn Horsley. Cheryl is survived by her children, Michelle Gibson, Kevin Gibson, grandchildren, Maddox and Elias, and umpteen nieces and nephews whose visits were a special joy for her during her last few months.
The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to the incredible staff at The Edmonton General's Mel Miller Hospice Unit.
Donations in Cheryl's memory can be made to The Cross Cancer Institute and The Alberta Cancer Foundation.
