Gemma Devenz “Nonna”
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Nonna, Bisnonna Gemma DeVenz on August 2nd, 2022 at the age of 85 after a brief and sudden illness.
She is survived by her two loving children; daughter Nadia (Robert Gibson) and son Walter (Courtney Tosh); her sister Luciana Corso (Bruno Vieceli) and sister-in-law Clorinda DeVenz (Natale DeVenz – deceased), five grandchildren: Amanda Perri, Melissa Perri (David Fedechko), Garrett DeVenz (Rebecca Fardy), Emily DeVenz, and Sharlet DeVenz; three great-grandchildren: Henry Fedechko, Adrianna Fedechko and Holden DeVenz.as well as numerous nieces and nephews in both Canada and Italy.
Gemma was predeceased by her husband Mario, her parents Pietro Corso and Maria Susin, her sisters Meri Corso (Antonio Corso), Giovanina Corso (Luigi DeVenz).
Our mother was born on September 24th, 1936 in Fonzaso BL Italy. She immigrated to Canada in April 1958 to marry and start a new life with our father Mario who arrived in Canada in 1956. With a lot of hard work, sacrifices, and great determination together they were able to create a home and family. Unfortunately, our father passed away at a young age in 1974. We were blessed to have had a strong and determined woman as our Mother who quickly and blindly picked up the reins to raise her children in a new country without looking back and only looking forward to the opportunities that she could garner for us. Mamma we thank you and will never forget what you did for us.

Cremation will take place at a later date with a private ceremony to be held at St. Michael’s where our mother will be laid to rest with our father. Mamma and Papa you are now reunited together. Forever and ever, amen.

We are so sorry for your loss, your mother was like an auntie to me. She’s watched us grow up and a big part of my mother and our lives. She was full of spirit and spunk a go-getter.
