On Feb 8, 2024 Glenn Mattson of Mayerthorpe, Alberta passed away at the Mayerthorpe Hospital at the age of 73 years old. He is survived by his sons Shon (Jenny Lowry), Brice (Laure) Mattson; Grandchildren Jace, Rozin, Rein and Ryatt; Sisters Elaine, Sheila (George), Sharon (Wayne); predeceased by his wife Patricia Mattson.

Glenn was born and raised in the Mayerthorpe area. He met his bride to be Pat in Whitecourt, Alberta where he was working in the oilfield & she was a teacher. They bought their first farm in Mayerthorpe where Glenn later retired and became a full time farmer. There he spent his time running Lazy G Quarter horses, a passion both Glenn and Pat shared. In addition he worked raising cattle, putting up hay and riding horses with his two sons, and later his grandchildren. Glenn was a huge fan of hockey, his beloved Oilers, his grandchildren's hockey seasons, and talking hockey with friends & family.

The family of Glenn would like to thank the EMS & the Mayerthorpe Hospital staff for the exceptional care that Glenn received during his hospital stay.

A service will be held at the Mayerthorpe Legion on March 14th, 2024 at 1pm. In his honour, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Patricia Mattson Legacy Fund, a scholarship fund for Mayerthorpe Graduates looking to pursue post secondary Education.

  2. To Bryce, Shon and family,
I wanted to reach out to you and your families and share my condolences on the loss of Glenn. Although I did not know him well he was a very good neighbor.

I had the privilege of renting my land to him for the last several years and he was always easy to talk to and get along with. He was always respectful and helpful.

I have just recently heard of his passing and was sad to hear that he is no longer with us.
Thinking of you and your family today as I understand his funeral is being held today.
    Take care Rachel Haines
