It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gwendolyn Ellen Louise D’Aoust. She went to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 1, 2025, at the age of 89.

Gwendolyn was the beloved daughter of Hugh and Muriel Ross, and one of fourteen siblings. She was born in Metcalfe, Ontario.

She was predeceased by her parents,  both her husbands  Hermann Bartling and Normand D’Aoust, daughter in law Suzanne Bartling and grandsons Brandon Rybak, Jason Bartling and Ryan D’Aoust.

She was a cherished sister to Elaine, Harry, Keith, Ralph, Lois, Brian, and Lynda, and is predeceased by siblings Evelyn, Wilmer, Wallace, Maurice, Lloyd, and Dwayne.

Gwendolyn was married to Hermann Bartling Senior with whom she had three children, Hermann (Suzanne), Susie Langille (Bruce) and Marlin (Denise).

After the passing of her first husband, Gwendolyn later married Normand D’Aoust and together they had three daughters, Cindy Chase (Bill), Teresa D’Aoust, and Bonnie Rybak (Brad). In later years, she was joyfully reunited with her firstborn Rob Harker.

Norm and Gwen later moved to Hinton, Alberta where they lived for many years. Gwendolyn was a devoted and loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 25 great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her deep faith, love of attending church, and her joy in reading the Bible. Gwendolyn had a passion for hunting and gardening, and her strength and gentle spirit touched all who knew her. She loved playing the harmonica, and in later years, even took up piano lessons. She loved writing poetry which came from her dad, who often quoted poems from memory. Many of her own poems were written from of her own life experience and her deep faith in God.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of McConnell Place West for their compassionate care and support.
