Riana Joy Greve Obituary
November 5, 1966 - July 26, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Riana Joy Greve of Edmonton, Alberta announces her passing on July 26, 2026 at the age of 59 years.
She was born in The Pas, Manitoba on November 5, 1966 and raised in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. She attended the University of Saskatchewan and obtained her Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1989. While helping her father at the local golf course, she met the love of her life, Mark Greve, who was on a camping trip to Madge Lake near Yorkton. Before you knew it, their relationship blossomed and deepened. They were married in Saskatoon on August 13, 1988. They moved to New Orleans, Louisiana to complete Mark’s medical Fellowship in Retinal Surgery (Ophthalmology), before returning to Canada with their newborn daughter. They made their home in Edmonton, where two sons joined the family. They filled busy lives with work, building a lovely new home on the ravine, and raising their three children. Riana took on a significant role in organizing and managing their home and various business enterprises. She had a chef’s talent for food presentation and hosting. Life took them to many interesting places, sharing experiences around the world together. Riana had a passion for gardening, interior decorating, and was an avid book club reader, welcoming friends and family into her home. Her skills for organization were legendary. Riana was thoughtful and compassionate, with a wonderful sense of style. She was loving and generous with her time and talents, and cherished visits with family—especially her grandchildren. Her quiet spirituality was an influence to her family and many others.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 37 years, Mark; her children: Lauren Harder (Drew), Matthew Greve, and Ty Greve; her grandchildren: Henry Harder and Sadie Harder; her parents: Violet Arnott (Lorne); her sibling: Phillane Jackle (Ken) and numerous other family members and friends from both sides of her family.
Riana was pre-deceased by her father, John Paluck.
A Celebration of Riana’s life will be held

We are heartbroken for your entire family.
My deepest condolences to the Family on the paaaing of your beloved. May she RIP🌹🙏
Riana was such a kind and thoughtful soul. As one of the “Yorkton bunch” that hung out with her in high school, (I was also her grad date) I always enjoyed her company. Riana had a lovely mischevious grin, a deep sense of right and wrong and sharp intellect. We lost touch over the years, which unfortunately happens too much to childhood friends. I am very shocked and saddened to learn of her passing. Much love to her friends and family. Rest well, Ri.
Dear Dr. Greve,

I hope this is the right place to share this – moments ago the Pastor said we could leave notes and memories of Riana on this page. One came to me right away: every time I cook with a cast iron pan I think of Riana. I loved how, because I proved that I could care for the big pan in Jasper, that she gave me permission to use them. I was so proud of that feather in my cap. I loved the notes she had there on how to clean, store and organize them. She was always there with you. I hope I get a chance to read those notes again because it’ll feel like she’s still with us, even if for only a bit. I have more stories and memories but wanted to get that down while it was fresh in my mind.
Dear Mark, Lauren, Matthew and Ty
I wish you strength in this difficult time.

What a heart achingly beautiful tribute to Riana. She has left such a massive imprint of love on her family’s hearts 💕
May God and memories of Riana’s constant love and joyful spirit give comfort and strength to all of her loved ones. 🙏
The love she expressed her family made her truly feel like an Aunty to me. She will be forever missed and will always have a place in my heart.
Her support for our race team will never be forgotten. It was and will be the most beautiful race car I have ever driven.
To Mark and your beautiful family,
I was so shocked and saddened 😓 to hear about Riana going to heaven. I just finished watching the celebration of life and was blessed to hear you and your kids talk about her. I am also one of the Yorkton gang and I was the one who Larry told to “bring some of your friends to the lake”. I had met him at a camp where he was working and my parents and I were camping. Riana, and I think also Carmela, were around, so I invited them out to the lake with me. I clearly remember you being smitten with Riana … and I’m quite sure the feeling was mutual. I remember that I also got to share in your wedding day! I was also in Edmonton for many years, until 2002 (now I’m back in Yorkton) but somehow lost touch with you both and for that I am sad. Listening to you, your kids and Mercida talk about her today, I’m pretty sure we still would have gotten along very well. I am so thankful that she knew Jesus and is now basking in the joy of heaven where one day we will all see her again. As you mourn, may God bless you with a peace that passes all understanding. I’ll keep you in my prayers. 🙏
Dear Dr. Greve,
My deepest sympathies to you and your family.
May the God of all comfort surround you with strength and peace through this most difficult time.
Another nice memory I have of Riana, which fits with how Ty, Lauren, Mark and her brother-in-law spoke about her, is how she readily and generously gave me a large portion of her tarragon plant (which she called “a beast”) when we moved into our new house in 2017. It is still going strong and does seem indestructible. I think of her every time I make Bearnaise sauce and regret that I wasn’t ever able to make it for her.
For many years, Riana and I were team mates. When our youngest sons started playschool together it wasn’t long before every day after class we were asked by Noah and Ty, “can we have a play date?” And, since Riana had Lauren and Matt to run around to their many activities, Ty often came home with me, or if I was running with Lucas, Noah would gleefully jump into her car (filled with snacks). I will never forget the first time I saw Riana’s snack bin in her car and I was so inspired by how smart and organized it was to be prepared just in case a last minute hockey practice was called at Oliver rink at 3:30! She had her kids covered (and mine too)! We spent a lot of time together over those years at book club, and Chicks United, at her cabin in Jasper, and just chatting at the park or the school parking lot. Everything she touched was done perfectly: she knew which wine to drink, she knew which coffee maker to buy, she knew how to make her life organized so that she could enjoy her moments with her family. I am gutted to know that she is gone, and I wish the kids and Mark a lifetime of happiness with their angel Riana sitting on their shoulders and lifting them up.
Dear Mark – we are so sorry to hear about Riana’s passing.. our heartfelt condolences to you and your family..
Thinking of you and your family in this difficult time.
Dear Mark, Matt & Ty, Lauren & Drew, Henry & Sadie,
I didn’t know Riana well but I knew the light she held. She left a box of Maldon Sea Salt Flakes at my house once and every time I opened my spice shelf, I thought of her and smiled. When I asked her to “chip in” on an Ipad gift for a mutual friend, she responded, “Can I just buy the Ipad”? If you wanted her to shine even brighter, just ask her about her beautiful grandchildren. While raising our kids, Mark & Riana often welcomed the neighborhood to their beautiful property in Jasper. Memories we all cherish. Rest in peace Riana
Dear Dr. Greve, Lauren, Matt and Ty,
I was shocked and saddened to learn of Riana’s passing. My thoughts are with all of you at this time.
I babysat the kids at the house prior to renovations, in the rental and after renovations in the new house. When you all spoke of Riana’s love and talent for design and organization it brought back a few memories.
I remember all the care and thought Riana put into making the rental feel like home and then into designing each of your rooms along with the rest of the new house. They were the coolest kids rooms I ever saw, complete with a fire engine bed, a climbing wall and a solo bathroom for a growing girl. I also remember the beautiful library and the window looking out over the ravine. It was one of my favorite places to sit after the kids went to sleep.
Riana was always kind, made me feel welcome in your home and made sure I had what I needed to look after the kids whether it was just for a night or summer days. I feel blessed to have known her.
I hope all the wonderful memories you have of her can help you find comfort in this difficult time.
