Great sadness surrounds our family with the passing of our dear sweet mother Rita Emma L’Heureux, who departed this life on Friday, May 1, 2026 in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 94.

Born on Sunday, April 24, 1932, in the close-knit French village of Legal, Alberta, Rita spent the younger years of her life living on a family farm with her parents, four siblings and numerous other extended family members and friends living in the same community.  It resulted in the close connection she had with her family during her lifetime.

As a dedicated and self-employed individual, Rita thrived in her entrepreneurial endeavors, touching lives along the way in an impressionable way.  Always generous and community minded, her contribution as a business owner helped to support and influence many small Alberta communities that she lived in with her husband and family over her working years.

After a lifetime of all consuming duties as a business owner, Rita enjoyed a long retirement giving her time for traveling to sunny locations, spending more time with her family and friends and becoming more involved with charitable pursuits.  In retirement, as in her working life, Rita continued to make positive contributions in the communities she lived in.  Rita and her sisters, fondly referred to as the ‘Dollies’ by their children, shared an enviable bond and were quite often seen at the casino together enjoying a good time.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Alfred and Emma Garneau; her husband of 49 years, Camille L’Heureux; her brother Armand Garneau and sister Cecile Berube, as well as numerous beloved sister and brother in-laws, nieces and nephews. Their memory remained close to her heart until her final days.

The legacy continues with her children, Lillian (Norman) Street , Lorraine (Wayne) Marks  and Monique (Davie) L’Heureux; her grandchildren, Cale (Sacha) Street, Angele (Declan) Mitchell, Christine Colbourne, Melissa (Daniel) Poulin and Brenden Christenson; as well as her sisters Marie Rose Hellec and Leah Berube, and sisters in-law Lucienne Garneau, Rosemary L’Heureux and brother in-law Daniele L’Heureux; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
