Ermiyas Welday Zerezghi
In Loving Memory of
Ermiyas Welday Zerezghi
A son, a brother, an uncle, and a light in many lives — Ermiyas entered this world from Welday Zerezghi and Tsigereda Gergis on July 7, 1997, in Keren, Eritrea. He was a blessing to his parents and a joy among his ten siblings. Growing up surrounded by love, laughter, and the warmth of a large family, his childhood was filled with the simple beauties of life — the closeness of siblings, the innocence of friendship, and the strength of faith that never left him.
From Grade 1 to 8, he attended St. Joseph School, bright, curious, and full of promise. Life tested him early as he attempted to cross the border to Sudan seeking safety and opportunity. Although he was caught and conscripted into military service for three years, his spirit remained unbroken. With courage in his heart, he tried again, and by May 2017, he finally reached Sudan — a step toward hope and the future he dreamed of. He worked hard, held onto his faith, and awaited the day he could reunite with his family.
In September 2022, that long-awaited moment arrived. He came to Edmonton, Canada, carrying dreams bigger than himself. While working full-time, he studied part-time — always striving, always giving. He supported his family back home and stood beside his family here with love, responsibility, and humility. Gentle, hardworking, and selfless, he brought joy to the home, especially to his nieces and nephews, who adored him deeply. He loved them with a tender heart — the way only an uncle who treasures his family can.
On November 23, 2025, our beloved Ermiyas left this world unexpectedly. His departure came like a storm we were unprepared for — leaving us in shock, disbelief, broken, and searching for strength. His absence is heavy. His chair is empty. His laughter, once filling our rooms, now echoes only in our memories.
But grief exists because love existed first. We cry because he mattered — because he touched lives, because he left footprints on our hearts that time can never erase. Though his life was shorter than we wished, it was filled with meaning, courage, sacrifice, and love.
Today, we hold onto every memory, every smile, every moment shared. We hold onto him. His spirit remains. His love remains. And he will forever be a part of us.
May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace, wrapped in the arms of God. May his memory bring comfort, strength, and love to all who mourn him.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." — Psalm 23:6
