It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Aloysius Kennedy, aged 70, of Edmonton, Alberta, on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

Born and raised in Moncton, New Brunswick, to Ruby and Paul Kennedy, Larry grew up in a large family with 11 siblings. His roots on the East Coast stayed with him throughout his life, and there was perhaps no place he loved more than a beach in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, where he could feel at peace with the ocean nearby.

Larry proudly served in the Canadian military, and it was while stationed at Wainwright military base that he met Kathrin, the woman who would become the love of his life. Their story became an important part of his own, and together they built a family that would remain at the heart of everything he was.

Larry was a kind and generous soul who cared deeply about people. He was the kind of man who always rooted for the underdog, who saw the good in others, and who never hesitated to help someone in need. He would give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger if he saw them struggling. His generosity came naturally, not because he expected anything in return, but because that was simply who he was. He understood that sometimes the smallest act of kindness could make the biggest difference in someone’s life.

To know Larry was to know a man with a big heart. He cared tremendously about others, often putting their needs before his own. His compassion, his willingness to help, and the love he gave so freely are the things that will continue to define his memory. The world was a better place because he was in it, and the lives he touched will carry a little piece of him forever.

At heart, Larry was a musician. His guitar was never far from him, and he found joy in playing music and singing. Music was one of the ways he connected with the people around him, creating memories that will live on long after the last note has faded. His signature song, and one that so many will forever associate with him, was Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. It was a song that became part of his story, and one that will undoubtedly bring smiles, tears, and memories to those who knew and loved him. It is hard to imagine hearing that song without thinking of Larry, his guitar, and the special place he held in so many hearts.

Larry leaves behind his loving family, including his children, Tia (Vincent) Eeles, Coralie (Curtis) Wickman, and Jamie (Sara) Kennedy, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Addison, Colby, Rhonwyn, Samuel, William, James, Nixon, and Arabelle. His family was an important part of his life, and his love will continue to live on through each of them.

Though our hearts are broken by his absence, we find comfort in knowing that the love Larry gave throughout his life does not end here. It lives on in the kindness we show others, in the music that reminds us of him, in the memories we hold close, and in the countless lives he made better simply by being himself.

Larry’s life reminds us that being a good person isn’t about what you have, but what you are willing to give. He gave kindness, compassion, love, and a helping hand whenever he could. That is the legacy he leaves behind, and it is one his family will carry with pride.

Rest peacefully, Dad. Your guitar may be silent here, but your song will never truly end. We will hear you in the music, feel you in the ocean breeze, and see you in every act of kindness that reminds us of you.

Until we meet again, may you and the love of your life be reunited in eternal paradise.

You will be loved, missed, and remembered always.
