  1. John:
We remember the lovely christmas dinner Grace and I had with you and your Uncle. What a fine and gentle man. Our hearts hurt for you: However we rejoice that he is with our Lord Jesus. Soon and very soon, we shall all be together.
    Amen.

  3. Eugene H.J.H. Phoa, respected breeder, judge, and educator in the English Cocker Spaniel community, passed away after a lifetime devoted to preserving and promoting the breed he loved. A longtime Sporting Group judge and influential voice in breed education, Eugene was widely known for his clarity of thought, his deep understanding of structure and movement, and his commitment to maintaining true English Cocker type.
Through his Wittersham English Cockers, he helped shape the breed’s development in North America, producing dogs admired for their balance, temperament, and classic expression. His widely circulated writings on balance and breed structure continue to guide breeders and judges today.
Eugene will be remembered for his generosity as a mentor, his fairness in the ring, and his unwavering dedication to the English Cocker Spaniel. His legacy lives on in the dogs he bred, the students he taught, and the community he helped strengthen.

  17. We felt sadness and gratitude when we learned of Eugene Phoa’s passing. We learned belatedly about Eugene’s contributions to the world of English Cocker Spaniels last October. After Eugene took ill, we adopted one of his dogs. Wittersham Quetico Impresario (Lulu) is a beautiful red English Cocker Spaniel. Lulu has brought us tremendous joy. She is a wonderfully behaved and well-bred dog. We will be forever grateful to Eugene for Lulu.
