Otilia Correia Santo was born on July 27, 1936 to Ressurreição and Manuel Santo in Ribeira Grande, on the island of São Miguel in the Azores.

Predeceased by her sister Maria de Deus, brother Filomeno, Otilia is survived by her daughter Eugénia (José) and brothers Pedro, José and Eduardo.

In 1959, Otilia married Filomeno Maré and moved to Filomeno's parent's home in Ribeira Seca. They welcomed Otilia as their own daughter. Later she gave birth to her only child Eugénia. Otilia raised Eugénia in Ribeira Seca while her husband worked in Canada for CN rail. He worked for many years to gather money to bring his family to Canada for a new life. In 1964, she moved first to Montreal for a few months then to Edmonton where they would settle.

Otilia was a hard worker and enjoyed interacting with people. She made many friends wherever she worked. First at White Stag, then Blus, Career Girl Bridal and other bridal salons. Her expertise as a seamstress was well known in the community.

Otilia served her church at St. John Bosco for more than 20 years in the CWL and as a Eucharist Minister. She continued to attend mass until about 10 years ago when she was no longer mobile.

Jesus was the love of her life and she continued to get comfort from her daily bible readings and televised mass. You would often find her in her living room pouring over her bible and other instructional books or watching the current hallmark movie.

Otilia took great joy in her grandchildren Jordan (Maria) and Nazaré (Jesse) and her great-grandchildren Evelyn, Rowen and her newest Ollie. They also took great pleasure in her company as they always said that she was the most unintentionally funny person they ever knew. Each of us has been the recipient of a well meaning observation or badly delivered compliment. Like when her daughter showed her her latest painting and after pondering it for some moments said "Well, it's nice but I wouldn't show it to anyone!" or "that sweater looks nice on you, now that you lost your belly!".

Otilia will be remembered as an inspiration to both family and friends. A kind and loving soul.

May she be at rest in the loving arms of Jesus.
