It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laura Fontes, who left us peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the age of 79 with her loving family by her side.
Laura was born on March 30, 1946, in São Roque, São Miguel, Azores. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend whose greatest joy in life was her family. Her love for them was unwavering and evident in everything she did. Known for her humor and remarkable strength, Laura had a gift for bringing people together and filling every room with warmth and laughter.
Her passions were rooted in her faith, her love of travelling, and most of all, the time she spent surrounded by those she cherished. Through her storytelling and caring nature, she created lasting memories and brought joy to her children and grandchildren. She dedicated her life to caring for her family, and her legacy lives on in each of them.
Laura will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Antonio; her children: Marco Paulo (Ann), Tony (Liana), Gorete (Mark) and Nelcia (Ryan); her grandchildren Alexandra, Nathan, Alyssa, Marco, Nicholas, Enrique, Aleshia, Arabella, Aryana, Marcus, and Lucas; her great-granddaughters Amália and Ária; her brother Joao (Alda) Meneses; sister-in-laws, Isaura and Isabel; numerous nieces and nephews; and many more family members and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jose and Rosa Meneses, and her five brothers, Manuel, Gilberto, Jose Francisco, Eduardo, and Alvaro.

My condolences to the Fontes family. Shra Laura had such a beautiful gift with words — the kind that could have you laughing through tears, even in the hardest moments. I will miss her phone calls just to tell me something funny, the countless times we rewatched the same video and laughed like it was the first time, the full belly laughs that left us breathless, and moments like the missing shoes at the wedding that still make me smile. As the saying goes, “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people,” and she crossed that distance effortlessly, again and again. These memories, and so many others, are ones I will cherish forever. She brought so much joy into my life, and she will be deeply missed and always lovingly remembered. Xo

She was always so supportive and her family was the most important part of her life.
I will always cherish the memories I had with her and her family. She always made sure to stop and hug me at any Portuguese function.
