Derryk Charles Overholt
Dear Family and Friends,
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Derryk Charles Overholt, aged 62, on June 20, 2026, following a brief illness. Known to many in Edmonton as "Derryk for real" or "DC," he lived a life defined by passion, music, and independence.
Originally from Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catharines, Ontario, Derryk moved to Alberta at age 20 with only a bass guitar and a backpack. He spent his years there working at the University of Alberta and traveling the province performing in various bands and duos. An intelligent and authentic man, Derryk lived on his own terms and was deeply respected for his sharp mind and unwavering sense of self.
Derryk was a lifelong lover of the arts, proficient in the guitar, harmonica, and mandolin. He had a deep appreciation for poetry, abstract art, and coin collecting. He was a dedicated lifelong learner and a natural entertainer who was happiest on stage, performing and sharing jokes to make others smile.
Derryk was preceded in death by his parents, Richard "Dick" Clayton Overholt and Irene Marion Wilson Overholt; his grandmother, Carrie "Granny" Patterson; his sister, Debbie; his adopted sister, Pat; and his best friend, Dan.
He will be lovingly remembered by his partner, Michelle; his son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Lauren; his grandchildren, Claire and Charles; his brother, Dick and family; and his nephew, Stewart and family. He also leaves behind a wide circle of extended family and friends.
The family is deeply grateful for the support received during this time. A private family gathering will be held to honour his memory.
