On July 6, 2023 Mom took her last breath on earth holding our hands as she began her heavenly journey.

Mom grew up on the farm near Edwand, Alberta and lived in many places across Alberta before finally settling in Edmonton in 1967.

Mom spent the last couple of years living at Shepherds Care Kensington where she made several new friends and enjoyed her steak and shrimp road trips.

She was predeceased by her husband Vince in 2022, her father Nick in 1979, and her mother Anastasia in 1992. Mom was also predeceased by all her siblings, brothers George and Norris and sisters Kathy and Iris.

Mom is survived by her son Terry (Kate), daughter Melody (Michael) grand children Ryan (Gabby), Meghan(Cory), Mackenzie(Jonathan), Kelsey(Chris) and great grandchildren Stella, Jack and Lyon.

Mom was a very caring and loving person known for orchestrating numerous epic Halisky family reunions over the years, where literally hundreds of relatives would gather to celebrate their Ukrainian heritage and consume every kind of Ukrainian food known to exist.

Mom was one of a kind ……she loved the outdoors everything from big game hunting to fishing and picking wild blueberries, cranberries, mushrooms and anything else edible that God put on this earth. Moms beet leaf cabbage rolls and wild strawberry/blueberry perogies were amazing. And then there is the story about Mom and Dad sleeping in an army tent at -40 Celsius to go ice fishing and of course Mom caught the most fish and the biggest one.

Mom especially loved fishing for Salmon on the Bulkley River at Moricetown BC where she and Dad would spend many of their summers. Many longterm friendships grew from these fishing trips with Angie, Joe and Lorena and others.

On the other hand Mom could knit, crochet and do petit point and produced many such pieces for family and friends. These handmade treasures were made with love in every stich.
We are pretty sure that God broke the mold after Mom was born.

Mom ….
You have an ear that truly listens
Arms that always hold
Love thats never ending
And a heart made of gold

Rest in peace Mom your work here is done………..

As per Moms wishes she has been cremated and there will be no formal funeral.

A memorial gathering is set for Thursday July 20, 2023 with details to follow.

  3. Emelia was a close friend & we loved our steak & shrimp road trips. She had a heart of gold & is dearly missed. We hope this poem will help to comfort her family & friends.
Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
    Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
Those we love remain with us
    For love itself lives on,
    And cherished memories never fade
    Because a loved one’s gone.
Those we love can never be
    More than a thought apart,
For as long as there is memory,
They’ll live on in the heart.
    Vera & Julius Lazarenko
