Jaime Augusto Gil Mouro
Jaime Augusto Gil Mouro, age 89 of Edmonton, AB died peacefully, and surrounded by family on June 27, 2025.
Jaime was born in the small mountain village of Unhais da Serra, Portugal in 1936. He was the second born of 7 sons of Abilio and Carolina Mouro. He was raised and worked as a farm labourer. As with all men of that era, he was required to serve in the armed forces of Portugal and did so for a year and a half as a military dental assistant.
Jaime married his wife Maria Fernanda, from the same village, in 1960. They soon had a daughter, Maria do Céu in 1961. In 1965, they moved to Canada and settled in Edmonton to build a better life for themselves and their daughter. In 1973, he expanded his family with the birth of his son, Michael.
Jaime worked polishing car bumpers for several electroplating companies for 9 years. The next 27 years of his working life was at Gainers meat packing plant as a meat cutter.
After retiring, Jaime spent his summers going to his fifth-wheel trailer at Alberta Beach. He visited Portugal several times; and then went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2009; where he renewed his wedding vows with Maria Fernanda.
Throughout his time in Canada, he never lost his connection to farming, and every year had a large garden. He was especially proud of his fruit trees that produced prodigious amounts of plums, apples, pears and cherries.
Jaime was an outgoing and sociable man that everyone liked. He will be dearly missed.
Jaime is survived by his loving wife, Maria Fernanda; daughter Maria do Céu; son Michael (Marianne); two grandchildren, Michelle and Craig, his great-grandson Wyatt and his three brothers, João, Romeo and Antonio.
