John Allen
It is with great love and sadness that the family of John Allen announce his passing on Monday, October 20th, 2025, at the age of 73.
John grew up in Porthcawl, Wales, and made Canada his home after moving here in 1976. Over the years, he dedicated his career to serving communities across Alberta as a respected manager in public works.
A lifelong aviation enthusiast, John had an adventurous spirit and a love for being active, travelling the world, golfing, and spending time with his family. He was known for his quick wit, intelligence, and zest for life — qualities that made him an incredible partner, father, grandpa, and friend.
Johns humour, kindness, and adventurous spirit will be lovingly remembered by his son Roger (Haley); grandchildren Billy, Olivia, Elizabeth, and Ace; sister Stella (Pete); nieces and nephews Tim and Sarah; and extended family Nathan (Jenny), Nathan Jr. and Paige. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have know him.

In lieu of flowers, John’s wishes were for donations to be made to a charity of your choice and he wanted this quote below included:
“When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return”
-Leonardo DiVinci

Our deepest condolences. Joe and I are blessed to have known you.
Roger, Haley, Olivia, Elizabeth and Ace:
We send our deepest condolences to you all on the passing of your Dad and Grandpa. We know he was well loved by you all and will be greatly missed. We hope your memories of him will help you through this difficult time and forever. Hugs to you all, Uncle George and Aunty Maxine Dribnenki
Uncle John was a Legend – He travelled the world, regaling stories as he went. Nearly being arrested near military bases while photographing planes, Seeing amazing sights that few will ever have the opportunity to see and playing Golf with his Son on incredible courses around the globe. He always had time for his family all round the world. He was one of the few people of his generation, who could talk to and understood all ages. When chatting with Uncle J, it never felt like talking to your senior, it always felt like talking to a friend. He will be so dearly missed, and while his battle ended too soon, his openness, kindness and comedic cheek will continue to inspire all his family and everyone he had contact with, and his stories will live on.
With Sadness, Love and respect where ever he may be – we tip our hat to a Legend.
John has left an honorable legacy of love in his wake, a chain of kindness shared to all that met John on his life’s path.
Roger, Haley, Olivia, Elizabeth, and Ace,
We send our deepest condolences to you all. It is so hard to lose a Dad, but especially hard when that Dad is also your best friend. Your words of him today were beautiful and touching. I’m sure he was bursting with pride for you, watching and listening as his spirit surrounded you. As hard as it was for you to lose him from this physical world, know that if he could have stayed with you, he would have. May your wonderful memories be the hands that hold your hearts in this terribly difficult time.
Our sincere condolences Roger and Family – we were so very sorry to hear of John’s passing. Your Dad was a great golf partner and an even better friend. We always enjoyed his company, his laugh and his quick wit. We feel lucky to have called him our friend. RIP John
