It is with much love and deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of our Mom, Josephine Elliott of St. Lina on March 9, 2024 at the age of 99 years and 4 months.

Josephine was born in November 23, 1924 in Despotovaz, Yugoslavia. In 1927 at the age of 4, along with her parents Michael and Magdalena and her younger brother Joseph, the Bartoli family came to Canada settling in the Elk Point area. This is where Josephine attended school next to the family home. As a young girl, mom enjoyed endless hours of horseback riding with friends. Dancing was also a favourite activity. It was at one of these dances at the age of 14 where mom first saw her future husband and our dad, Glenn Elliott.

After leaving school, she worked in Jasper at the Rexall drugstore, later moving to and working in Toronto. When returning to Alberta, she again met the rodeo rancher man, Glen Elliott. They married March 16, 1946 and started their married life at Clandonald. Their first four children, Penny, Donna, Duane and Jim were born there.

Leaving Clandonald they trailed 32 head of horses to the foot hills of Bearberry, where they lived for the next few years. Their next two children Wanda and Keith were born there.

The next move was to Brier Valley in the Newbrook area. This is where Jody was born.

Later the family moved to Nevis in the Stettler area where they ran a little general store and post office. The final move for the family was to Brièreville on the Beaver River.

With Dad‘s passing in 1996, Mom continued to live there until her passing March 9, 2024.

Mom leaves to mourn her younger sister Betty (Maurice) Tarr. Along with her loving children, Penny Elliott-Ericson, Donna Elliott, Duane (Betty Anne) Elliott, Jim Elliott, Wanda (Bob) Austin, Keith Elliott, and Jody (Cara) Elliott. 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, husband Glen, brother Joseph, sisters Kathleen and Lillian, and infant granddaughter Kaleigh Rae Elliott.

At mom’s request there will be no formal service, and cremation has taken place. Mom’s final resting place will be with our Dad at the Ashmont cemetery.

Josephine will forever be remembered for her kindness to humankind and animals alike. As well as her enduring hope in the Bible’s promise of a future reunited with her loved ones on a paradise earth. But above all her welcoming, beautiful and captivating smile. We will never ever forget you, and will always remember the laughter and smiles you brought to our lives.

  1. Our condolences and prayers to Keith and all the Elliott family.

  2. Hello Keith
sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. I met her just the once when we were at your place for Christmas. She was very pleasant. Your brother was there too. Iris McQ is still doing well. We had a scare a month ago but she bounced back and is still living at the original farm site.
Hope all is well with you,
