Kimberlee Jean Cameron-Friel
Kimberlee Jean Cameron-Friel, 65, of Beaumont, Alberta, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, at the Roozen Family Hospice Centre in Edmonton after a courageous year-long journey with cancer.
Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Kim was the eldest of three daughters born to Glendon James Cameron and Jean Lilly Roberton. From an early age, she embodied the qualities of a devoted first-born: responsible, independent, and always caring for those around her.
A lifelong learner, Kim was passionate about education and took great pride in studying Education and Sociology at the University of Alberta. Throughout her career, she held a variety of roles, most notably serving for over 20 years in administration at the University of Alberta Hospital, where she was respected for her dedication and professionalism.
Kim held a deep curiosity about the world and a love of travel. She had been looking forward to spending winters in warm, sunny destinations. Fiercely intelligent and wise beyond her years, she found joy in genealogy, art history, and animal rescue. Her home was her sanctuary—a place of beauty, comfort, and carefully chosen artwork that reflected her appreciation for peaceful surroundings. She also gave back to her community through volunteerism, always preferring to help others without seeking recognition.
Those who knew Kim will remember her as someone who listened without judgment, offered thoughtful advice, and found quiet ways to care for the people she loved. She believed kindness was best expressed through actions rather than words, and her generosity touched many lives, often in ways that went unseen. Her compassion, wisdom, and gentle presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Kim is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kristen Al-Aamri (Giyab); her beloved grandson, Mohammad; her sisters, Jacqueline Nicolson (Doug) and Patricia Welch (George); and numerous extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her parents and her longtime friend, Leslie Douglas.
In accordance with Kim's wishes, no formal service will be held.
Kim's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her healthcare team for the exceptional compassion, care, and support they provided throughout her illness.
Kim will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her intelligence, kindness, quiet generosity, and unwavering love for her family.

My condolences to the family and friends. Kim was not only a co worker but a friend, she and Leslie helped me a lot when my beloved daughter passed. Many calls of encouragement and compassion!
Kristen, I have had many discussions with your mom sharing stories of love for you, your husband and her grandson! She had so much love for you all, and was so proud of all your accomplishments and milestones of her beloved grandson! She had no problem educating you on any subject, and eager to give you advice. A quick conversation would end up hours long, and we would laugh and have to hang up quickly before we would start a new conversation which happened often! Even our texting sometimes would go on and on lol! I enjoyed all our conversations! She went through a lot struggles but never gave up, and was always positive! She will be dearly missed! I never had the opportunity to meet Kim personally, but my wife, Holly, did. They knew each other from years past. From time to time, Kim would reach out to me and show her support for some of my posts, and through those conversations, it became very evident what a kind, caring and compassionate person she was.
Sadly, we had lost touch with Kim over the past couple of years and had no idea that she had been battling cancer. We were deeply shocked and saddened to learn of her passing.
Even though I never met Kim in person, I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to communicate with her. She truly seemed to care about people and had a very kind heart.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kim’s family, friends and everyone whose life she touched. I pray that God has welcomed Kim into a very special place in Heaven, where she may rest in peace and enjoy a beautiful life for all eternity.

I cannot describe or explain my relationship with Kim. It goes all the way back to 1994 when we first met at grant Mcewan community college I was attracted to Kim right away because she was extremely helpful knowledgable and critical. We sat through the art history class, then the general history classes with Dr. Higgins I really struggled in some of these classes, but Kim helped me and if it wasn’t for her, I would’ve not made it through those classes. Over the years every time I called Kim she was full of advice, encouragement, and love. I know we’ll meet again in a different form in a different life until then rest in power my friend you did well while you were in this world this world is not a safe or a peaceful place and you struggled along and hopefully resting peacefully tons of love.

My deepest condolences for Kim’s family and loved ones. Although I knew Kim when she was a child, we did not connect as friends until about a year ago. We had quite a few long conversations. She was smart, funny and kind. She very interesting and fun to talk to and I will miss our conversations. Rest in peace, Kim.❤️
