Patricia Watamaniuk (nee Masny)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Watamaniuk (nee Masny) on December 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Mel (Jeannette), Myron (Susan) and Justin; her grandchildren Jarad, Stuart (Arisha), Jason (Alysha), Danica, Ellie and Kai, as well as many extended family members. Pat was predeceased by her husband Metro, as well as other family members.
Pat was born in White Beach, Saskatchewan to a large Ukrainian family, and was raised in Swan River, Manitoba by her aunt. When Patricia was in her late teens, she moved to Edmonton where she worked as a nanny, waitress and in a dry-cleaning business. She met her future husband Metro at a dance, and they married in 1967; Pat then became part of the large Watamaniuk family. Pat and Metro moved to Stettler in 1971, where they raised their 3 sons, and Pat became a homemaker while Metro worked in the Stettler Hospital as an LPN. Metro passed away in 2020, after 53 years of marriage. Pat sold her house in Stettler in 2022, and moved to St. Albert to be closer to her children. She spent 3 happy years living independently in her cherished apartment, until she passed away after spending 3 months in hospital.
Patricia’s love of dancing and social functions helped her meet Metro, and throughout her life Pat continued to love dressing up and going to family gatherings. Her family was her passion, and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and taking photos of everyone. She never stopped caring for, and thinking about, her family to the very end. Patricia was proud of her Ukrainian heritage, and she loved cooking Ukrainian food, and enjoyed berry and mushroom picking, fishing, and watching baseball and hockey with Metro. Pat loved animals and when she no longer had her own pet, she happily looked after her children’s pets. She will be remembered as Mom, Baba and Pat to her family, and will be greatly missed.
The family extends its gratitude to the Ft. Saskatchewan Community Hospital and the Rivercrest Care Centre Hospice for their care and compassion in making Patricia’s final days comfortable.
A private burial at the St. Albert Municipal Cemetery has taken place.
