With profound and deep sadness, our family wishes to announce the passing of Sandean Newhart on May 14, 2021 at the age of 70. Sandy was the beloved wife of Alex and devoted mother to Trish( Shad House). She is also survived by her sister Roxanne Kendrick. Sandy was predeceased by her parents Ken and Esther Nugis.

Sandy was a kind, compassionate person as was evidenced by her close friends who also mourn her passing. After years of teaching at Sunshine Park Play School in Sherwood Park, she spent her retirement years travelling, golfing and entertaining friends as she loved to cook and try out new recipes. Little pleasures of life made her happy from walking Trish’s Havenese dogs, reading great books and walks with Alex.

Despite dealing with cancer for almost 27 years, Sandy remained optimistic and persistent in facing this disease. She continued to enjoy life’s pleasures until her failing health prevented her from moving forward. Her resilience was extraordinary and her strength and dignity will forever be a guiding light for her family and friends.

Our family would like to thank the medical team at 7 West of the Misericordia Hospital and the kind staff at River Crest Hospice in Fort Saskatchewan in caring for this gentle woman. Cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations in tribute to Sandy could be made to any charity that is meaningful to you.

  1. So sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sandy was an amazing lady. Remember all the great times you shared and the joy she brought to so many.

    Hugs

  2. Words cannot express our sorrow for your loss. Sandy was a dear friend whose resilience never failed to amaze us. She was a strong and brave lady throughout her illness never complaining and always positive. It was our privilege to have been friends with her for almost 50 years sharing many great times with her and Alex. We always looked forward to our dinners with them as Sandy’s cuisine made them extra special. She always had a recommendation for books we might enjoy to read and often had a couple to loan out. Our memories of our trip to Hawaii, golfing, dinners and visits with her will always be with us. We shall miss her dearly.

  3. Sandy was a wonderful person. I was lucky enough to have worked with her at Sunshine Park Preschool. Not only will I remember her as a kind, caring teacher she became a good friend.

  9. “Mrs. Newhart” was an absolutely loved teacher by Kris, Britni & Quinten Quail at Sunshine Park. She was so patient, compassionate & loving… our 3 very different children… she just knew how to embrace them & meet them where they were in their little lives. I remember talking about breast cancer with her, not knowing I’d be diagnosed a few short years later. Her positive attitude was contagious & I believe, life saving. Today I went into my part-time work at the wig boutique to find ‘sandy’s recipes’ hanging on the staff bulletin board… when I questioned my co-workers, I was saddened, but also filled with gratitude to find that Mrs Newhart had touched my life yet again. Please know this beautiful lady is in our thoughts. We send our deepest sympathy to Sandy’s family. May you find comfort in your cherished memories ❤️

    • Thank you for your kind words. Sandy didn’t have the papers to prove it but she was a born teacher with a kindness that shone through to all the children she encountered
