Victor Hugh Gersdorff
Victor Hugh Gersdorff, a world traveler, master of many trades, and an enthusiastic adventurer, passed away on May 24, 2025, in Edmonton, Alberta, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 86.
Born in Los Angeles, Chile, on October 10, 1938, Victor's adventurous spirit led him to explore the world, living and working across Europe, South America, and North America while speaking several languages including Spanish, English, French, German, and some Swedish. He and his family ultimately settled in the City of Edmonton, which they would call home for almost 50 years. He was a man who loved working with his hands, finding skill and satisfaction in roles as a maintenance man, automotive technician, and a business owner. Beyond his travels and work, Victor was a huge fan of sports, passionately following the Edmonton Oilers and Eskimos (now Elks), and was an avid supporter of both soccer and basketball.
He was a funny man with a truly unique sense of humor, and a 'language' all his own. His legacy includes many words, terms, and phrases that will never be forgotten; small nuggets that he shared with the generations that followed, friends and family alike. Victor is survived by his sons Christian Gersdorff (Isabelle) and Luis Gandolfi (Jamie), and his grandchildren Solana, Taya, Lilly, Elon, and Alexander. He is also remembered by his former spouse, Patricia Hoefele, and by many cherished family members in Chile, some of whom have predeceased him.
He was beloved by his family and will be missed immensely. Rest in Peace Abuelito.
