It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend, Barry Brenton, on April 8th, 2025, at the age of 66.  Barry was born on August 29th, 1958, in Englee, Newfoundland.  He grew up in Harbour Deep, a small fishing community on the Northern Peninsula, then in 1980 moved to Yellowknife, NWT with his family where they lived for 23 years, later moving to Alberta where he spent the last 20 years.

Barry loved his family and every moment he had with them. He made the most of every moment, bringing laughter and smiles to every event. His love of fishing began as a young boy in Harbour Deep, and continued into Yellowknife where he spent a lot of time with family and friends at the cabin, he and his brother Mac built on Narcisse Lake. In Alberta Barry spent many days out on the frozen lake with his grandchildren, teaching them all the tips and tricks he had learnt throughout the years.

Although Barry had left Nfld, his heart remained. He continually went back to his home with Wavey and the boys, keeping traditions and relationships with family and friends there strong. In later years him and Wavey fulfilled yet another dream of building a home on the ocean in Jacksons arm. Another place that will forever hold a small piece of Barry. No matter where Barry was, he loved the great outdoors; camping, boating, quadding, ski-dooing, right down to just puttering around his acreage; inventing, organizing and building. At a very young age Barry began teaching his sons, Bradley & Ryan everything he knew, engaging them in every adventure and project. Because of Barry both boys have grown up with a multitude of skills, building homes and families. They learned laughter, to enjoy the small moments, how to love and be loved, how to be supportive husbands and loving fathers. His legacy and love will live on forever through them and his grandchildren.

Barry is survived by his wife Wavey; children, Bradley (Christa), Ryan (Catherine); grandchildren Landon, Liam, Gage, Zachary, Isabella, Halle, and Jackson; brothers, Wallace (Leanne), Malcolm (Carol), Elias, Cyril (Kelly), and Gilbert (Tammy); Sister in-laws; Joan (Ted Elvey), Barbara (Barry Ropson), and Brenda (Brian Brown), as well as many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and friends.  Predeceased by parents Jerry and Martha Brenton; brothers Kenneth and Chesley; in-laws Ernest and Isabella Cassell.

  26. I am so sorry for your loss, we grew up with Barry and wavy in con camp and he was the sweetest man, full of smiles and warmth.

  27. Ryan and Brad:

I was gutted to hear the news that you guys lost your dad/best friend. Your relationship and friendship was very apparent. I have great memories of our time together when Barry joined us on our sled trip to Grizzly Lodge. Years later, I had the fortune of working with Barry at Horizon where he introduced me to conveyors and crushers. He had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh hard and hand out the odd little side slap when sharing a good chuckle. It’s pretty damn sad he was taken so young, but I can only hope that you guys are able to hang your hat on all the memories and great experiences you shared. The father/son bond you had was something many would be envious of. He will be greatly missed.

  28. Leona and my thoughts are with you Ryan and Brad and your families. We had the pleasure of one sled trip with you guys and Barry and it was plain to see the respect admiration and friendship you had with your Dad. Tough times I’m sure our thoughts are with you.

  29. Our deepest condolences to Wavey, Ryan, Brad and all the family. It was sad to hear of Barry’s passing. I can’t think of a time that I ever seen him without a smile or him making you laugh when you were around him. Memories of Narcis lake trips came back to me the other day that were hilarious laughs and great times tucked back in the bay. Hard days ahead but lots of memories for sure that will get you all through this hard time. Rest in peace friend

  30. Our most sincere condolences to Wavey and family on the loss of your beloved Barry—husband, father, papa, and best friend. We are praying that you will find comfort in knowing that we care about you all and ask God to give you courage and strength to move forward knowing that Barry is no longer in pain and is at rest with his Lord. Barry will always be with you in spirit and in the many memories you shared as a family. We are sad that we will not see him again, but we are happy that we knew him. He was a great man and will be remembered as a true friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Sending love and hugs to you all. May Barry RIP. 🙏🏻

  31. To say we were shocked at the news of Barry’s passing is a huge understatement! I had the opportunity and honour to get to know Barry while driving back and forth from St. Albert to Calgary every week during the first year of Horizon. Lots of laughs and some serious thoughts as well. Barry had a great sense of humour and a huge heart. You will never find anyone who loved their family more! Our hearts and prayers go out to them. Barry was one of the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met and the world is a much lesser place without him. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again in the other side, may God bless you and keep you safe.
