Georgina Margaret McInnis
Georgina Margaret McInnis peacefully made her final transition to be with her Lord and Savior, on June 9th with family by her side, at Pilgrims Hospice Society. Only 70 years of age, Georgina fought a heroic, yet graceful battle against a rare terminal cancer over the past few years. Her family cherishes the time they had with her, despite its challenges.
A loving Mother, Nana and Friend, Georgina leaves behind her two children - Alison (Rob) Smith along with her eldest grandchildren, Gracie (16) and Mason (12); her son - Ian (Sheena) McInnis along with her youngest grandchildren, Cade (9) and Jackson (6); and her devoted boyfriend, Doug Podolsky. Georgina is pre-deceased by her parents - Olga and Bill Didluck; sister -Barb; brother - Kel and leaves behind two brothers - Bryan and Shawn.
Born in Foam Lake, SK, Georgina and her family moved to Wainwright, AB when she was 8 years old, where she spent the rest of her childhood. She graduated from high school in 1972 and moved to Edmonton where she got her first job at AGT as a long-distance telephone operator. She attended Bible college shortly thereafter where she met her husband, Douglas McInnis, and learned to walk with Christ.
Georgina’s two children were born in the Lower Mainland of BC where she lived for 15+ years. She returned to Edmonton, AB following her divorce, as she was accepted to the Royal Alexandra Hospital of Nursing School. With God by her side, a few tears and an unwavering relentlessness, Georgina graduated with honors in 1996 and became a Registered Nurse. This was one of her greatest accomplishments, defeating all odds while raising two young children as a single mom. Georgina worked as an RN on several units, settling at the Misericordia Hospital’s Acute Care Orthopedic Surgery Unit, then transitioning to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Surgical Units, for the remainder of her nursing career. She cherished this outlet to care for patients and share God’s word with those in need. Georgina’s final working years were spent as Gracie & Mason’s nanny aka “second mom” picking them up from school, making dinner and caring for them. She later was able to help her son one day a week as well. This time spent with her grandchildren was precious and they hold it near and dear to their hearts.
Georgina would be honored to leave a legacy of love and hope for eternal life through Jesus Christ which was evident in all she did. Above her faith and deep love for her family, Georgina enjoyed music and country concerts, travelling to the mountains and warm destinations, like Hawaii, Mexico and Cuba, visiting with friends, and watching her favorite TV shows. In recent years, before getting sick, she was able to spend time at Alison & Rob’s cabin, take up dance lessons, enjoy dinner theatre and attend antique car shows with Doug.
Georgina’s family would like to thank the doctors at the Palliative Care Unit at the Grey Nuns and the entire medical and admin team at Pilgrims Hospice, for allowing their mom to spend her final few months in a beautiful, loving and caring environment.
We wish for dignity and grace for all those who are sick, especially at the end of life. Should you feel compelled to donate in Georgina’s honor, please consider Pilgrims at https://pilgrimshospice.com/get-involved/make-a-donation/
A private celebration of life will be held in a few weeks time at Saints Church. Details to follow.
